New vehicle sales rose by 27.2 percent year-on-year in February as the auto industry hopes it can exceed pre-pandemic sales levels this 2023.
In a joint report released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) showed that vehicle sales reached 30,905 units last month—higher than the 24,304 units sold in February 2022.
Month-on-month sales saw February vehicle sales rise by 4.8 percent, while in year-to-date sales, the CAMPI-TMA collectively sold 60,404 units—a 34 percent growth over the same period last year.
In February, commercial vehicle (CV) sales increased by 29 percent to 23,716 units, accounting for 76.74 percent of the total industry’s sales. This was driven by double-digit growth in sales of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) such as pickup trucks that went up by 20.4 percent to 18,035 and Asian Utility Vehicles (AUVs) that rose by 84.1 percent to 4,896.
For the first two months of the year, CV sales rose 37 percent to 45,709 units led once more by the strong demand for Light Commercial Vehicles (up 29 percent to 34,792 units) and Asian Utility Vehicles (up 85.5 percent to 9,483 units).
Meanwhile, sales of Passenger Cars (PC) jumped by 21.6 percent to 7,189, which made up 23.26 percent of total sales in February. In the January to February period, Passenger Car sales jumped 25.6 percent to 14,695 units.
Month on month, sales of commercial vehicles grew by 7.8 percent, while passenger car sales declined by 4.22 percent.
As of end-February, Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. led all car manufacturers in terms of sales with 28,299 units sold, equivalent to a 46.85 percent market share, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines in second with 10,656 units (17.64 percent), followed by Ford Philippines with 4,171 units (6.91 percent), Nissan Philippines with 3,535 units (5.85 percent), and Suzuki with 2,939 units (4.87 percent).
CAMPI and TMA members aim to sell 395,000 units this year, 12 percent higher than the 352,596 units sold in 2022. If the 2023 sales target is met, it would surpass the 369,941 units sold by CAMPI-TMA members in 2019.
This would also be the second-highest ever sales for CAMPI-TMA, since the 425,673 units sold in 2019 or a year before the implementation of Republic Act No. 10963 or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.
As a whole, the auto industry is forecast to hit 408,300 units this year—including sales from the members of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) and MG Philippines. This is 10.4 percent higher than the 369,981 units sold by the auto industry in 2022.

Am surprised honda beaten by isuzu, am not surprised geely not selling well because of hefty priced increased of emgrand , okrabanko and ashkarra. Kia volume seller stonic has been raized to the ground

DeleteVolkswagen Phils. need to change their top management and to introduce more new global models. While Kia Phils. need to bring the new seltos and sportage with competitive price, for sure it will be a significant boost. We have now the specific numbers from Chery. =)
