Report: All-New 2024 Honda CR-V Getting Turbo, Hybrid Engines

Reports coming out of Thailand suggest that the ASEAN debut of the all-new Honda CR-V is just around the corner. The sixth-generation Honda compact SUV is said to be making its regional debut at the upcoming Bangkok International Motor Show on March 20.

Before then, however, it’s been revealed that Honda (at least in Thailand) will be dropping the current engine line-up found in the fifth-generation CR-V for an entirely new one. Both the 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel engine and the normally aspirated gasoline engine will bid goodbye for a turbocharged 1.5-liter and an electrified 2.0-liter 4-cylinder.

Based on Thai media reports, the turbocharged 1.5-liter will be the all-new CR-V’s base engine and in this guise will make 193 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 243 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. This engine is paired to a CVT gearbox driving all four wheels.

Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line variant will get an electrified 2.0-liter e:HEV which pairs a lean-burn 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 207 horsepower and 335 Nm from 0 to 2,000 rpm. This version is also said to benefit from Honda’s Real-Time AWD system.

Interestingly enough, the all-new CR-V which is larger in every dimension (84 mm longer, 9 mm wider, 3 mm higher, with a wheelbase stretched by 38 mm) will keep its 5- or 7-seater option for this generation. Moreover, expect features to include power front seats, fully digital instrumentation, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and even a 10-speaker Bose sound system. And of course, the 2024 CR-V will benefit from the Honda Sensing system as well with the possible addition of a 360-degree camera and blind spot indicators.

And thanks to the official Honda Thailand pictures, it is confirmed that the CR-V will also get the RS or Road Sailing treatment; something the current CR-V did not get. This version is somewhat different from the one shown in North America with the ASEAN version has slightly reworked bumpers and wheels.

With this impressive bump in specs (and power), expect the all-new Honda CR-V to climb up in terms of price.

As a reminder, the current model is already priced at P 1.763 million to P 2.290 million, so expect a starting price of around P 1.9 million for the all-new compact SUV. However, given the favorable excise tax towards hybrid vehicles in the Philippines, it would not be surprising if Honda Cars Philippines will go all-in with a hybrid-powered CR-V just as Toyota did with their RAV4.

    2. I think he is saying that panoramic roof isnt offered on north american models but will be offered on asean ones. I saw some reviews where journalists keep saying its a missed opportunity for honda to put one on there, being an all new model with higher price tag

    6. R2D2, yes thats what I meant by that. Usually asean models get lesser of the premium features etc. To 3 anonymous who seems to be just one person, the point was about asean offering, not even local setting, learn to understand better next time.

    8. Better without sunroof. It just adds complexity and the rubber need be replaced soon.

    9. Luxury car makers has left the room. A panoramic sunroof is a premium feature. Tesla, Volvo, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc. all have sunroofs.
