Toyota Refreshes Yaris Once Again For 2023

In what could be our clearest indication yet that the current-generation Vios will get yet another refresh this year, Toyota Thailand has done so with the Vios’ hatchback sibling, the Yaris.

The current body XP150 dons an almost entirely new front-end with a design that bears a strong resemblance to the all-new Crown and Prius. The new “hammerhead” front-end, together with the restyled LED headlights give the Yaris a much aggressive appearance. At the back, the changes are limited to just re-styled taillights (now LEDs with light guides) and a built-in diffuser in the bumper (complete with a carbon fiber effect).

Based on spy photos, it is expected that the Vios will get the same aesthetic changes.

Inside, the 2023 Yaris gets a revised center console with a larger touchscreen-based infotainment system. Although Toyota wanted to go for something that visually floats, the execution looks very tacked on. That aside, there’s a revised instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch LCD TFT display and two USB charging ports for the rear passengers. The Thai market also receives several fashionable interior color combinations including a predominantly red one with a quilted pattern on the leather seats.

Safety-wise, the Yaris also benefits from a full suite of airbags, anti-lock brakes with EBD, stability control, and hill start assist. It also adds Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), blind spot indicators with rear cross traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera.

For the Thai market, where the Yaris qualities for their Eco Car program, it’s powered by a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine (3NR-FKE) making 92 horsepower and 109 Nm of torque mated to a CVT. It also comes with an idle start/stop system as well. Though a slow seller locally, it’s very likely that Toyota Motor Philippines will quietly slide the new Yaris in (along with the refreshed Vios). If that is the case, expect it to have a carryover powertrain.

  1. I like hatchback and yaris is a good one, the price though it's ridiculous that you would rather buy a city hatchback RS which is bigger, powerful and has a lot of features. Until they change the pricing of yaris variants, hanggang showroom lang yan sayang.

  2. C'mon now Toyota. Replace this with the global Yaris instead of this half-baked 3rd world effort.
