After its regional debut last January at the Singapore Motor Show, Motor Image Pilipinas has quietly launched the new Forester GT Edition just a few days before its public debut at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
The latest work from former Subaru STI designer Masahiko “Jack” Kobayashi and Japanese engineering company, Giken Co., the 2023 Forester GT Edition features a more dynamic exterior with its aero-honed front and rear lip extensions, side skirts, and roof spoiler. Unique GT Edition 18-inch wheels complete the exterior enhancements.
Inside the cabin, the Forester GT Edition goes for a design flavor inspired by European grand tourers. It gets diamond-quilted leather seats with embossed “GT Edition” logos at the sides.
Mechanically, the 2023 Forester GT Edition stays the same. It comes with a normally-aspirated 2.0-liter boxer engine producing 156 horsepower and 196 Nm. This is mated to a CVT driving all four wheels via Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
Like all other Forester models, the Forester GT Edition comes with the latest Subaru EyeSight 4.0. The stereoscopic camera provides advanced driver assist including an autonomous emergency steering system that prevents frontal collisions by swerving it safely to the side, within its lane. This is on top of other safety technologies including a 360-degree camera, blind spot indicators with rear cross traffic alert, and more.
The 2023 Subaru Forester GT Edition is priced at P 2,298,000—a P 130,000 premium over the Forester 2.0i-S EyeSight.
Doesn't deserve the GT bade nor the price with that underpowered 2.0L engine. Subaru really went downhill for enthusiasts. Now they are catering to the mass market.
