Honda has released a series of Type R models throughout its history with models such as the Integra, Civic, NSX, and even the Accord all receiving the iconic crimson-colored H emblem. But if there’s one model that deserved the Type R treatment but never got it, it’s the S2000.
It took a Southern California tuner, Evasive Motorsports, to do it and now, the S2000R will be made available to customers as a limited-edition model.
The biggest change is what’s found under the hood. The Evasive S2000R swaps its high-revving normally-aspirated motor (F20C or F22C1) for the Civic Type R’s K20C1 engine. Sourced from the FK8 Civic Type R, the 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo helps bump up the power to 306 horsepower and 400 Nm. But, thanks to a multitude of upgrades—a MoTeC M140 ECU, a carbon fiber Mugen air intake, bespoke intake manifold, exhaust downpipe, and a titanium dual exhaust system, it’s now rated at 300 horsepower at the wheels.
As for the transmission, a custom adapter plate allows the K20C1 to sync with the S2000’s 6-speed manual, while an OS Giken limited differential helps keep the car pointed in the right direction.
Regarding suspension upgrades, the S2000R receives custom KW Clubsport coilovers fitted along with uprated suspension bushings and chassis brace. There’s also an EVS bump steer kit and camber joints as well as Eibach sway bars on both ends. Capping off the handling upgrades are 18-inch forged wheels with 255/35R18 rubber on both ends, and Brembo four-piston calipers measuring 14 inches at the front and 12 inches the back.
For Chassis 000, Evasive Motorsports opted to fit their S2000R with a special appearance kit that includes a 20th Anniversary Edition front bumper, Spoon aero mirrors, a carbon fiber tonneau cover, and a dry carbon fiber hood and trunk lid to help reduce weight. Inside, it has carbon fiber Recaro Podium seats, carbon fiber door cards, an Alcantara trimmed interior, and a MoTeC 127display that replaces the factory gauge cluster.
Evasive Motorsports says they’ll offer customers two routes to get their own S2000R. First is owners can buy fully built cars straight from the company, or customers can opt to supply their own donor S2000 and have the tuner do the rest.
Final cost will be dependent upon any additional work required to create a suitable platform.
