Jaecoo has finally released some details surrounding its launch product: the Jaecoo 7. Showcased at Auto Shanghai, it’s confirmed to arrive in the Philippines in the final part where it will share showroom space alongside the Omoda 5 and Omoda 5 EV.
As a brand, Jaecoo is positioning itself as a true SUV maker, fulfilling the needs of those with “exquisite taste for outdoor exploration.” This gives a mental picture of being it being a no-nonsense, go-anywhere SUV manufacturer, perhaps akin to the Land Rover Defender or Suzuki Jimny. Instead, the Jaecoo 7 is a unibody crossover.
Still, it manages to differentiate itself from other Chinese compact SUVs with its all-wheel drive layout with selectable drive modes. A front-drive version is also available, though.
Style-wise, at least it looks the SUV part with its boxy, upright stance. Like so many other designs out there, Jaecoo decided to go the compound headlight route putting the LED daytime running lights at the top and the main LED headlights towards the middle of the bumper. It’s not immediately visible, but the massive grille also happens to hide the LED front fog lights near the bottom. Over to the side, the Jaecoo 7 features flush-type door handles and a “floating” two-tone roof. At the back, it has LED taillights that horizontally spans the rear section.
Interestingly, there’s an upcoming Chery-branded version of the SUV too. Dubbed the TJ-1, it’ll be launched in China between July and August.
Dimensionally, the Jaecoo 7 will have an overall length of 4,451 mm and a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, putting it somewhere in the Geely Coolray and Changan CS35 Plus segment (size-wise, at least). It’s also underpinned by the T1X platform—the same one used in the Chery Tiggo 7 down to the front MacPherson struts and rear multi-links.
It will be powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine making 197 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed dual clutch. No word if O&J will offer it with a different powertrain, like maybe something that’s displacing 1.5 liters or below for, you know, tax purposes.
As for the interior, the 5-seater Jaecoo 7 will have a free-standing LCD screen for gauges and a large (13.2 or 14.8-inch) screen for the infotainment. It will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto out of the box. It also has an electronic shifter that helps free up a console underneath.

ReplyDeleteIt is very bold of O&J to launch this early and globally, aside from Chery, they have no prior product yet. There is nothing under the brand that will show this has been tested for few years already. I was trying to google Jaecoo 7, there are no hits aside from PH car magazine and portals. If they are coming in as subsidiaries then lesser risk for local investors. I do hope the actual product perform well in PH roads. Otherwise a recent new black-eye for China branded cars.
