New car sales reached 30,643 units—a 21.8 percent compared to 25,149 units a year ago. This is according to the joint monthly report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).
According to a CAMPI-TMA statement, the auto industry is optimistic to attain pre-pandemic levels this 2023. In fact, it is worth noting that for the first four months of 2023, the industry has already recorded this growth trajectory compared with 2019 levels.
For the month of April, Toyota remained a clear number one with 14,123 units sold or a 46.09 percent share of the market. Mitsubishi is in second with 5,613 units or 18.32 percent followed by Ford in third with 2,716 units (7.10 percent). Not far behind is Nissan with 2,114 units or 6.90 percent. Rounding out the top five for April is Honda with 1,240 units or a 4.05 percent market share.
Both year-on-year sales of passenger car and commercial vehicle segments improved by double digits.
Passenger cars sold a total of 7,317 units last month, 16.9 percent higher than the 6,259 units sold in April 2022.
Again, Toyota has the lion’s share of the passenger car segment with 3,795 units sold (51.97 percent) followed by Mitsubishi with 1,809 units (24.72 percent), Honda with 529 units (7.23 percent), Nissan with 431 units (5.89 percent), and Suzuki with 240 units (3.28 percent).
Meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales increased by 23.5 percent to 23,326 units in April 2023 from 18,890 units a year ago.
Toyota is the number one commercial brand with 10,328 units sold (44.28 percent), followed by Mitsubishi with 3,804 units (16.31 percent) and Ford in third with 2,157 units (9.25 percent). The top five is completed by Nissan with 1,683 units (7.22 percent) and Isuzu with 1,125 (4.82 percent).
Notably, this April, Astara Philippines has started breaking down the sales of its two brands, Peugeot and GAC Motor. With that, GAC Motor sold 299 units, outselling other Chinese brands such as Foton (111 units) and Chery (214 units). They have also managed to overtake more established brands such as Mazda (172 units). Peugeot, meanwhile, sold 15 units falling behind Volkswagen’s 18 units.
A new CAMPI member has also appeared in April: Global Autodistribution, Inc. Global Autodistribution, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of JMC Automobiles in the Philippines.
From January to April 2023, CAMPI and TMA sales jumped by 28.1 percent to 127,927 units from 99,903 units in the same period last year.
On a year-to-date basis, sales growth of passenger cars was higher than the commercial vehicle segment at 30.5 percent and 27.3 percent, respectively.
Sales of passenger cars in the first four months of 2023 reached 32,070 units compared to 24,582 units in the same period in 2022.
Commercial vehicles sold 95,857 units in the January to April 2023 period, higher than the 75,321 units sold in the same period last year.

imho I think Ayala & AC Motors needs to do better, I feel like they've been lagging as a distributor for their three imports..:/
