The Philippines loses out to Vietnam as the site of Chinese new energy vehicle giant BYD’s new assembly plant.
According to Reuters, a Vietnamese government statement released after a meeting between BYD’s founder and chair Wang Chuanfu and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has resulted in the creation of favorable conditions for BYD to complete investment procedures in that country.
Earlier, BYD was considering the Philippines and Indonesia, along with Vietnam, as possible sites of a second EV manufacturing plant. This was even confirmed by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo.
BYD, which already runs a factory assembling electronic devices and parts in the northern Vietnamese province of Phu Tho, will also form a local supply chain to promote the manufacture of EV-related parts and components.
This new Vietnamese plant will also end up supplying parts to its assembly plant in Thailand located in the industrial province of Rayong. This EV assembly plant in Thailand has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles and will start production by 2024.
Pros and cons of being an EV assembly plant?
ReplyDeleteWe are fast becoming a warhead for the Americans. The risks are obvious. Better to maintain neutral and save the country.
ReplyDeleteExactly. They know how to manipulate & pressure BBM because the US knows his family's remaining hidden wealth are mostly in the US & they still have a lot of pending court cases there. Unfortunately, the 2nd placed candidate last year is also a US vassal & puppet. 😬
DeleteImagine giving away 4 more bases for token aid & secondhand, obsolete military equipment. Our little brown Amboy doormats are cheap & easy, just like an Angeles streetwalker.
Thats what the chinese want you to think. Think for yourself.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell us what is the benefit of letting the US use 9 of our bases here? Remember they also don't recognize our territorial claims in the SCS precisely because they are disputed territory. Why didn't they help us during the Scarborough encounter, instead they lied about the Chinese agreeing to simultaneously pull out of the shoal, as told by no less than Trillanes, who is certainly not pro-China. You can't trust the US based on their track record, and you can't conflate the SCS & Taiwan issues, those are two very different issues. I don't know why the little brown Amboys keep mixing up the two.
Deleteprevious news already mentioned BYD opening a site in Vietnam. Manufacturing in the Philippines almost worst idea, due to high energy prices, tax benefits, etc..
ReplyDeletewe need to hoard our nickel reserves then given car manufacturers are snobbing us.
ReplyDeleteExactly. No more exports of raw precious metals. Set up your refinery & finished products manufacturing here or you don't get access to our natural resources. Our elites are lazy, shortsighted, little brown vassals with an internalized inferiority complex & colonial mentality.
DeleteAt this point, I'm not convinced it's just "cheaper power costs" & 'better tax incentives", after all, they can negotiate the same industrial rates if they asked our gov't agencies & if they lobby hard enough. Capitalist hypocrites, both Westerners & East Asians, actually prefer non-democratic countries for manufacturing plants because they know they only have to deal with 1 person, the command economy ensures faster decision-making & no opposition from so-called cause-oriented groups like labor unions, environmental & human rights activists. So next time these haughty Westerners lecture us about democracy & human rights, just point out where they manufacture the phones & cars they use. 💁
