Peugeot has unveiled the updated 2008 compact crossover that takes a new step in design, technology, and electrification.
Launched at the end of 2019 (it was launched in the Philippines in 2022), the second-generation 2008 is one of Peugeot’s best-selling vehicles. So far, 700,000 units of the B-segment SUV have been produced globally. Read our review of the Peugeot 2008 here.
For its 2024 update, the 2008 gets Peugeot’s new lighting signature characterized by the three vertical claw lights integrated into the black inserts of the bumper. Full LED headlights—now with three separate lighting modules—give a more distinctive look. Sandwiched in-between is a wider grille and the new Peugeot shield logo. New alloy wheel designs (with concealed lug nuts) and restyled rear lighting (in LEDs, naturally) complete the changes.
Inside, the new 2008 gets a revised 10-inch digital gauge cluster, new standard 10-inch central touchscreen, revised steering wheel and seating materials. The center display itself houses the new Peugeot i-Connect multimedia system with smartphone integration and natural language voice recognition. Other new features include more USB ports, a more powerful wireless device charger, and a 360-degree camera.
In terms of powertrain, the 2024 Peugeot 2008 arrives with a series of conventional and electrified powertrains. For fans of pure gas (or diesel) engines, the range starts with the PureTech 100 and its 1.2-liter 3-cylinder good for 100 horsepower. This engine comes solely with a 6-speed manual. Moving up, there’s the PureTech 130—a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder good for 130 horsepower. This version can be had with an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. Finally, there’s also the BlueHDi 130 and its 1.5-liter diesel 4-cylinder with 130 horsepower.
For those who want a pure electric driving experience, the 2024 e-2008 offers increased outputs. From 136 horsepower, the single-motor setup now produces 156 horsepower—a jump of 15 percent. Furthermore, the battery pack has been increased slightly to 54 kWh (from 50 kWh) enabling it to achieve 406 kilometers (from 345 kilometers) on a single charge. As always, it can be charged using a single-phase AC, three-phase AC, and DC fast charging.
Coming at the start of 2024 is a hybrid engine. This 48-volt mild hybrid electrifies the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine. This is mated to a new 6-speed dual clutch automatic.
Regardless of engine, the new Peugeot 2008 now gets Grip Control which provides access to three driving modes: sand, mud and snow.
In terms of safety, the 2004 Peugeot 2008 comes with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, and blind spot monitoring.
The new Peugeot 2008 will be produced first at the Vigo Plant in Spain. It will go on sale in Europe by the middle of 2023. Since the Philippines sources its units from Malaysia, it will likely take more time (likely by 2024) before this refreshed sub-compact SUV makes its way to local showrooms.
