Volvo is finally addressing some of the concerns we’ve had with the Google OS system built into their infotainment system (read our review of the Volvo XC40 B5 Boost Hybrid to know more).
Rolling out globally, the Volvo software 2.9 offers a better Apple CarPlay experience for users.
The most notable improvement in this update makes full use of Volvo’s all-digital gauge cluster by allowing Apple Maps and other supported navigation apps to be displayed there.
In addition, the driver display is now also presenting call information. You can answer, reject, and end calls using the buttons on the steering wheel, and with the center display, you can directly hang up or mute the call.
The CarPlay tile in the center display now also features media information. The improved media interaction makes it easier to play, pause, and skip between songs.
This update also brings a range of changes that improve the experience for all drivers. From now on, you can switch between driver support functions using the steering wheel buttons and choose whether the wing mirrors should fold or not when locking the car. Other changes include some minor engine calibration optimizations and other bug fixes.
Since Volvo started rolling out over-the-air updates, they’ve been constantly delivering improvements to the in-car infotainment experience. Their previous update brought the total number of delivered OTA updates to over the one million mark. This update is expected to reach over 650,000 Volvos around the world.
