It’s official: the all-new Subaru Crosstrek is coming to the Philippines. Teased via Motor Image Pilipinas’ website, the compact crossover is slated for a market launch very soon. Though nothing has been made official, reports point to a July reveal.
Launched already in another Motor Image-held market, Hong Kong (it was launched first in a non-Motor Image-controlled market—Indonesia for ASEAN), the Crosstrek takes over from the Subaru XV as the brand’s compact crossover.
It’s currently unknown what variants Motor Image Pilipinas will bring in, but they’ll likely continue with their strategy of offering a solidary variant. In which case, expect them to offer the top-of-the-line 2.0i-S. This should give them room to introduce a sportified variant—the Subaru Crosstrek GT Edition later, and aligns them to other major left-hand drive market, Taiwan (typically, the Philippines and Taiwan share the same specs for Subaru vehicles).
Going back to the Subaru Crosstrek 2.0i-S, this variant gets a 2.0-liter Boxer 4 with 156 horsepower and 196 Nm—same as the outgoing Subaru XV. Power is routed through a Lineartronic CVT driving all four wheels. Zero to 100 km/h is quoted at a relaxed 10.5 seconds, while top speed is listed at 198 km/h.
Features include 18-inch alloy wheels, a powered driver’s seat, sunroof, and a large 11.6-inch portrait-style infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as both USB Type A and Type C ports.
The third-generation model, codenamed “GU” also sports a full suite of safety features including the new Subaru EyeSight 4.0. This enhanced version of EyeSight adds a monocular camera to the stereoscopic setup enabling a wider field of detection and adding abilities such as being able to automatically steer the vehicle away from a collision (Automatic Emergency Steering Assist).
The current Subaru XV retails for P 1,908,000. Expect the all-new Subaru Crosstrek to stay within the same pricing bracket given that the much-larger Subaru Forester is priced at P 2,168,000.
Registration of interest is now open for the all-new Subaru Crosstrek on the Motor Image Pilipinas website.
Subaru should install the engine of the WRX into the Crosstrek.
