The 2024 Volvo EX30 Will Come With A Soundbar Speaker System

Following the reveal of its first next-generation EV, the EX90, Volvo almost ready to show off the EX30 EV. In the lead up to its global launch, they’ve revealed more key points surrounding its cutting-edge interior tech and considerate Scandinavian design.

Among the details that Volvo revealed is an innovative soundbar on the dashboard. Inspired by home audio design, it’s a perfect example of the EX30’s smart design by clustering the speakers together within one component and reducing the amount of wiring and material.

At first you might not even notice it, located under the windscreen and seamlessly integrated into the cockpit design. But with no need for speakers in the doors, Volvo has freed up more storage space. In the same vein, they’ve moved the window switches to the center console, where they are easy to reach for both the driver and front-seat passenger.

The soundbar promises a premium sound system and can even be optioned with a Harman Kardon speaker system.

Other unique touches in the EX30 include relocating the glove compartment and placing it beneath the center screen. This means both the driver and passenger can now access it easily, because it uses extra space provided by the flat floor.

The center console itself comes with a sliding system that allows passengers to choose exactly how space is used. The top of the cupholder can be slid out to hold a cup of coffee or smartphone, or moved back for more storage. The lower tunnel has a protective storage area for small items such as sunglasses or ear pods, and a bag in the large open space above.

Towards the back, the rear passengers can store their phones in dedicated pockets in the front seatbacks, while a neat storage box slides out from beneath the center console. Inside the tailgate, Volvo included a handy size guide—perfect for IKEA shopping and are unsure whether that new table will fit.

In terms of user interface, the EX30 has a single 12.3-inch screen at the center. Here, key driving information such as speed and charge levels are positioned prominently at the top, with navigation, media and controls easily visible and accessible below. A contextual bar that gives the most relevant functions for your needs at any time.

The center screen also offers a ‘calm’ view, which strips away everything apart from the most vital information for extra focus. This feature is especially helpful at night, when it can reduce the strain on your eyes during long drives.

The EX30’s infotainment system is powered by Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and will come with Google built-in services. It will also be the first Volvo to offer wireless Apple CarPlay.

The new Volvo EX30 will be revealed on June 7 and will be available to order or pre-order in selected markets on the same date. For the local market, Volvo Cars Philippines’ electrification journey will start with the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge which will arrive before the end of 2023.

  1. Soundbar sounds cool, but no physical buttons. Also we got two teasers for upcoming cars and the emphasis were both on audio systems. How times have changed.

    1. Perhaps automakers are now maximizing the potential of sound systems to amplify fake engine sound.

    2. Not all carmakers are going with the fake engine sound route. This one is designed to reduce the wiring needed while freeing up interior space.
