A month after its global reveal, the DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross has been officially launched in its first market: Indonesia. It has also begun manufacturing the new small SUV for export markets in Asia as well as South America.
For Indonesia, the Yaris Cross is offered in three variants, two of them sporting a conventional internal combustion engine, while one sports a gasoline-electric hybrid. The Yaris Cross G retails at 351 million rupiah (P 1.315 million), followed by the Yaris Cross S at 407.7 million rupiah (P 1.527 million), and the top-of-the-line Yaris Cross S HV at 440.6 million rupiah (P 1.650 million).
By comparison, the Honda WR-V starts at 269.4 million rupiah (P 1.009 million) and tops out at 297.4 million rupiah (P 1.114 million), while the HR-V starts at 375.9 million rupiah (P 1.408 million) and tops out at 529.9 million rupiah (P 1.984 million).
Using this as basis, the Yaris Cross is posed to do battle more with the HR-V, in the compact crossover category, as opposed to the sub-compact SUV. This makes sense given Toyota does offer the Raize as their smallest five-seater SUV.
In terms of mechanical specs, the Yaris Cross comes with a 2NR-VE 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 106 horsepower and 138 Nm. The base G variant is offered with a 5-speed manual, but the rest comes solely with a CVT, including the hybrid variant. And on that note, the hybrid uses a 2NR-VEX engine. Its Atkinson cycle engine is rated at 91 horsepower and 121 Nm that’s boosted with an electric motor rated at 80 horsepower. Torque is set at 141 Nm. Energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery.
Dimensionally, the Yaris Cross is also in the same ballpark as the HR-V being 4,310 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,615 mm tall. Its wheelbase is set at 2,620 mm. However, the Toyota sports a higher ground clearance at 210 mm.
All variants of the Yaris Cross come with an electric power steering with tilt and telescopic adjustment to the steering column, and four-wheel disc brakes. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, front fog lights, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and fabric seats. Higher trims receive 18-inch alloy wheels, a hands-free power tailgate, leather upholstery, climate control, and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen. The hybrid is the only one to get a panoramic sunroof, wireless device charging, and ambient lighting.
Standard safety features include 6 SRS airbags, blind spot monitoring, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, and front and rear parking sensors. Higher variants also receive the Toyota Safety Sense suite.
Though not official, it’s been reported that this DNGA-based Yaris Cross is just one of the ten planned vehicles that Toyota Motor Philippines is planning to launch this year.
210mm ground clearance? Previously it was 260mm.
ReplyDeleteGround clearance is different from the rocker panel height. The 260 mm was the stated distance from the ground to the rocker panel. The 210 mm is its official ground clearance. This means there's a low-lying exhaust or suspension bits that lowers the official ground clearance to 210 mm.
