BMW Philippines brings in the hardcore M3 Competition Sport or CS. Sitting atop the M3 range, the M3 CS brings not just increased power but an extensive weight reduction program and retuned chassis to deliver the most exhilarating track experience while maintaining the functionality and usability the M3 is known for.
The BMW M3 CS features a 550-horsepower inline-6—up 40 horsepower from the regular M3. This is thanks to an engine whose design is directly derived from BMW’s racecars. It has a closed-deck construction, wire-arc sprayed iron coated cylinder bores, and cylinders with a 3D-printed core. Peak torque is at 650 Nm available from just 2,750 rpm to 5,950 rpm. Dual-branch exhausts with electronically controlled flaps and a titanium rear silencer minimize weight and increase its aural appeal.
Putting all that power to the pavement, the M3 CS has an 8-speed automatic transmission with an M xDrive all-wheel drive system. The electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch enables it to transfer torque variably between the front and rear wheels.
All in all, the BMW M3 CS goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and 11.1 seconds to 200 km/h. Its overtaking speed—80 to 120 km/h is over in just 2.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 302 km/h.
Keeping up with the additional power, BMW has tweaked the suspension with unique tuning to the springs, adaptive suspension system, and steering. Forged alloy wheels are found at each corner, measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the back.
Cutting its curb weight, the BMW M3 CS uses carbon fiber-reinforced plastics on the roof, hood, front splitter, front air intakes, exterior mirror caps, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler. The same goes inside where the steering wheel paddles, center console, and seat base are all constructed of the lightweight material. All in all, the M3 CS weighs 20 kilograms less than the M3 Competition. Meanwhile, body rigidity is increased by the strut braces for the engine compartment that have also been engineered for lightness.
In terms of specifications, the BMW M3 CS comes with BMW’s Laserlight technology. And by illuminating the DRLs in yellow instead of white both during its welcome sequence and while the headlights are activated, it harks to BMW’s GT racing cars.
Specifications of the BMW M3 CS include M carbon bucket seats (fully electric and heated, with an illuminated M badge), a dedicated “Setup” button on the center console, and the BMW Curved Display (12.3-inch driver display and 14.9-inch infotainment). Comfort features include a three-zone climate control system, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, and wireless charging.
The BMW M3 CS is priced at P 16,890,000. This makes it the most expensive BMW M model locally, surpassing even the BMW XM and M5 Competition. It comes with a 5-year / 200,000-kilometer warranty.
