Ahead of its official Philippine launch, Chery Auto Philippines has confirmed that the first batch of Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid units have arrived in the country.
Previewed for the Philippine market at the Manila International Auto Show last April, the Tiggo 5x Pro Hybrid features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This pairs a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a belt starter generator or BSG.
The system is intelligent and detects the need, based on the driver’s driving style, when there is a need for economy or performance. As a result, there is 14 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and savings of up to 13 percent in fuel consumption.
Furthermore, the Chery hybrid system comes with an idle start-stop system that turns off the engine such as coasting to a dead stop. It also helps further reduce fuel consumption, while minimizing noise pollution when the vehicle is stationary.
The Tiggo 5x Pro will be available in two variants. The non-hybrid model comes in at P 940,000, while the 5x Pro Hybrid is priced at P 1.140-million.
Mild hybrid is just a marketing gimmick.
