Peugeot, Jeep Parent Company Reveals First BEV-By-Design Platform: The STLA Medium

Stellantis—the parent company of CDJR (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM) as well as Peugeot and Citroen, has detailed its first-ever “BEV-by-design” platform: the STLA Medium.

The first of four platforms to be launched by the group, the STLA Medium has been developed with flexibility in mind. It will underpin both C- and D-segment offerings in passenger car, crossover, and SUV body styles.

Wheelbase will range from 2,700 to 2,900 mm, while the body itself can range from 4.3 to 4.9 meters. Ground clearance of more than 220 mm will ensure excellent off-road capability. It can also accommodate wheel sizes up to 750 mm (29 inches).

Vehicles riding on the STLA Medium platform will be sold globally in front- or all-wheel drive. Power outputs range from 217 horsepower (160 kW) to 387 horsepower (285 kW).

Stellantis says the STLA Medium will help deliver best-in-class range of more than 700 kilometers with the “Performance” pack, while the “Standard” pack drops that range to 500 kilometers. It can fit up to a 98-kWh battery pack.

The STLA Medium also uses a 400-volt architecture, delivering a charging rate of 2.4 kWh per minute.

Moreover, Stellantis will pack their battery pack into a single layer making its packaging as efficient as possible, while also lowering its center of gravity. Platform components, such as the cabin heating/cooling system, steering, braking assist, and propulsion are designed to minimize energy consumption. It will also extensively use lightweight and rigid materials in its construction too.

With 26 vehicle nameplates across the group expected to use the STLA Medium platform, Stellantis says they plan to roll out it out in Europe first by next year.

Up to two million vehicles annually can be built on the new platform globally.
