Legendary “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya is trading in his gas-powered Toyota AE86 for the all-electric Ioniq 5 N at a special exhibition marking the first all-electric model from Hyundai’s high-performance N brand.
Set to make an appearance the World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) in Australia, Tsuchiya-san will pilot the Ioniq 5 N in a series of demonstration laps.
Tsuchiya-san is credited with inspiring and popularizing the sport of drift globally, starting with a late-1970s video of him skillfully drifting his Toyota AE86.
Drifting to entertain the crowd on the final lap while competing in the All Japan Touring Car Championship in the 1980s cemented Tsuchiya-san’s legend status and Drift King title and he went on to found the D1 Grand Prix, the first professional drift series.
With the Ioniq 5 N’s N Drift Optimizer, which helps maintain drift angle, Tsuchiya-san will find sliding the dual-motor 650-horsepower EV much easier. Moreover, it has a “Torque Kick Drift” function that simulates the clutch kick action of a rear-wheel driven combustion engine vehicle when initiating a drift.

ReplyDeleteEV motors of the Ioniq 5 don't easily break down unlike the engines of the GR86 and BRZ which are known to be unreliable 😂😂😂
