July Marks 17 Consecutive Months Of Growth For PH New Car Sales

Last July, 37,086 new cars were sold according to the latest joint report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines and Truck Manufacturers Association (CAMPI-TMA). This is a 33.3 percent increase compared to July 2022’s 27,813 figure and 2.1 percent up (36,311) from June 2023.

All automotive segments show growth, but the biggest ones (in terms of percentage growth versus July 2022) are Passenger Cars (+49.8 percent), Category V Trucks & Buses (+87 percent), and Category IV Trucks & Buses (40.9 percent).

In terms of monthly sales, Toyota leads all carmakers selling 16,583 units, helping it corner a 44.71 percent share of the market. In second is Mitsubishi with 6,830 units (18.42 percent), Ford in third with 2,773 units (7.48 percent), Nissan in fourth with 2,478 units (6.68 percent), and rounding out the top five is Suzuki with 1,559 units (4.2 percent).

Versus their June 2023 figures, the biggest monthly gainers are Foton with a 92.5 percent sales jump (306 units sold versus 159 units), Kia with a 91.3 percent jump (507 units versus 265 units), and Tata with 28.6 percent (9 versus 7). The biggest monthly losers are Kaicene (-80 percent), Mercedes-Benz (-55 percent), Jaguar Land Rover (-41.8 percent), and JMC (-22.4 percent).

It must be noted though that for both Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover, July was a transitionary month as they switched corporate entities from Auto Nation Group to IC Star Automotive for Mercedes-Benz and IC Land Automotive for Jaguar Land Rover from Coventry Motors.

Despite the risk of inflation, the auto industry has managed to sustain its growth trend as sales of new motor vehicles recorded a continued year-on-year growth for the past 17 consecutive months—since March 2022.

Total sales in the first seven months reached 239,501 units, up by 31.1 percent from 182,687 delivered in the same period in 2022.

Passenger Cars sold in the seven-month period went up by 33.1 percent to 60,501 from 45,349 units a year earlier, while Commercial Vehicle sales increased 30.4 percent to 179,144 from 137,338 units.

Toyota leads at the seventh-month mark with a 45.99 percent market share, followed by Mitsubishi with 18.3 percent. In third is Ford with 6.94 percent, while Nissan and Suzuki complete the top five with a 6.54 percent and 4.25 percent share respectively.

Notably, Suzuki managed to displace Honda in the cumulative 2023 sales tally.

  3. Stargazer,Staria and H100 boosted the sales of Hyundai which is good
Volkswagen sales are fine even if 3 dealers closed down..Santana Sedan is out of stock already and the remaining units on sale are the best selling T-Cross,Cross Santana and Lamando..The upcoming local launch of Tharu is gonna boost their sales next month.
Sales numbers of Geely and GAC are gonna increase more in the next few months when the GX3 Pro and Emzoom sales are added.
