Meet The 2024 Xforce: Mitsubishi's New Compact Crossover (w/ Specs)

Mitsubishi has named its new compact crossover the Xforce. Rolling out for the Indonesian market first, but confirmed for the Philippines as well, this all-new model combines authentic SUV styling with a spacious and versatile interior and maneuverability perfect for the region’s tight urban roads.

The “Silky & Solid” design concept results in a stylish yet powerful SUV design that combines elegance and robustness. The upper part of the body is meant to look visually light, while the lower part adopts a solid and powerful proportions. Key features include a top-class ground clearance of 222 mm while 18-inch alloy wheels and 225/50R18 tires enhance its handling.

Inside, the Xforce uses Mitsubishi’s Horizontal Axis dash concept. However, for the first time in a Mitsubishi model, it uses a mélange fabric to pad the instrument panel. This highly practical fabric exudes modernity, while still being resistant to stains. At the center is a large 12.3-inch monolithic display running the brand’s Smartphone-link Display Audio. The driver gets a digital driver display for a cutting-edge feel.

For the first time, the Xforce comes equipped with Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium developed in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation. The system is comprised of eight speakers, with front tweeters on the A-pillars on both sides, woofers in the front doors, and coaxial two-way speakers in the rear doors. In order to maximize speaker performance, measures have been taken to optimize sound quality in the car itself. The sound system also offers four sound types that can be selected according to musical taste and mood: Lively (factory setting), Signature, Powerful and Relaxing.

The Xforce uses a 1.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine. The 4A91, shared with the Xpander, helps this 5-seater SUV produce 104 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The sole transmission is a CVT.

Its suspension has been tuned with ASEAN roads in mind making sure it stays comfortable even over rough or undulating roads. The front has optimized caster trail and a quicker steering ratio, while the rear has optimized bushings and shock absorber diameter size. Ground clearance is set at a generous 222 mm, while its approach and departure angles are among best in its class at 21 degrees and 30.5 degrees, respectively. Its turning radius is a compact 5.2 meters.

As a 2WD model, the Xforce has utilized Mitsubishi Motors’ four-wheel control technology to achieve the road handling of an SUV. The four drive modes of Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud allow the car to deal with a range of road conditions by integrating Active Yaw Control (AYC) that adjusts the driving force on the front left and right wheels to improve controllability, traction control that controls tire skidding, engine control, and power steering control. Adopted by Mitsubishi Motors for the first time, the Wet mode improves cornering and stability on wet roads during rain makes it less likely to lose control of the steering wheel for worry-free driving even on roads flooded by sudden showers.

  2. Mitsubishi never fails to disappoint. First the new Strada with its underdone engine & tranny, drum rear brakes, archaic suspension.. and now this XForce (weird name, but at least it sounds better than "Xpander") with no ADAS, no hybrid, no sunroof, underpowered engine and CVT (baka 4-speed AT yan pagdating sa Pinas LOL), no 360 cam or sensors, etc. Even by the low ASEAN standards, this is horribly equipped. Knowing it is based on the Xpander, driving dynamics and ride quality should be just as bad. Sayang, this is actually the first Mitsubishi product in a long time which doesn't look outright ugly.

    1. I beg to differ because Mitsubishi is doing the right thing and adding all thise things would make it the most expensive SUV in the ASEAN market. And I disagree with your statements because I am very happy that Mitsubishi never fails to impress ME. And besides, Ibam happy that I will buy a fully loaded 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and I will go to the 2023 Mitsubishi Motors 60th Anniversary Expo on Saturday.

  3. Get ready everyone, expect to see this front fascia in all the upcoming Mitsubishi products in the next 5 years if this sells well, just like how Mitsubishi slapped the Xpander face into all its models back then after the Xpander was a hit.

  4. X (twitter) force...maybe mitsu should hire ELONG MASK as endorser.

  5. Did not expect a Deadpool reference from Mitsubishi

  6. Pls will be enter model soon such as eK X EV, Minicab MiEV, Outlander PHEV, Triton and XForce soon?

  7. Naming it as Mitsubishi Lancer Cross would have been nice too.

  8. Wow, no unnecessary chrome bits, no black top fad, no excessive plastic claddings, and overall a design that blends well from front to back. This is very unlike Mitsubishi. I guess my only criticism would be the flat black pillars not blending well with the windows, but make those glossy black and we have a surprisingly decent looking car from Mitsubishi.

  9. Its better than expected, on paper at least. Pero yung totl nito V yung katapat sa yaris cross. No panoramic roof, no hybrid engine. Also, 4 airbags? Even raize has 6 sa pagkakaalala ko.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Malaysian auto blogs say it has 6 airbags. Topgear PH and Carguide.ph say 4 airbags. Is it really 4 or 6?

    1. Officially, the spec sheet reads "side airbags." Didn't really indicate if it's side + curtain or just side (seat-mounted) airbags.

  11. It will sell well if its waay below the Yaris cross price, as it should.

    1. It seems this is going to compete against the lower end trims only of the Yaris Cross since there is no hybrid version yet.

  12. Local info should be more accurate over those from other countries. Distributors have price to beat and revenue targets to meet. This is when certain toys are taken away or lessen.

    1. Yeah looks like they have already decided on the country specs as early as yesterday. I thought the specs released was just for the Indonesian variant since it is going to be sold there first.

  13. It's clear to be a Yaris Cross close rival. I doubt the Creta would sell well.

    1. Creta in ph even the top of the line has only 2 airbags while yaris cross has 6 airbags as standard. Yaris cross has more features n lower priced than the downgraded version of creta we have here.

  14. 4 airbags only? I wonder which set of airbags were omitted from the standard 6, if it is the side airbags for the front seats or the full length curtain airbags.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yeah so disappointing. The Malaysian variant has 6. I expect the curtain airbags to be taken out from the PH variant.

  15. Its longer and wider than the Yaris Cross. Wheelbase is longer too. I think its a good alternative to the Yaris Cross if same list price but with generous discounts at the dealer. It seems Mitsubishi is the only car maker who understands the need for higher floor height.

  16. No ADAS in Indonesia.. but according to the media in Indonesia, there seems to be provision for radar up front and the gauge screen is basically ready for ADAS in the menus, so it could be coming in a more expensive trim level in the future

    1. There is indeed a version of the Xforce in the Gaikindo Motor Show (a white one) that has full ADAS + adaptive cruise control and 6 airbags.. the problem is that version apparantly isn't going on sale in Indonesia, which is baffling. Maybe that is why Mitsubishi didn't include these features in the press materials.

  17. No Evo, no Mitsubishi for me

    1. Evo is dead in our market, embrace it or not, that's the sad reality.

  18. This XForce is gonna be another Best seller for the Diamond brand. Better than the Yaris Cross. I hope the price is right.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was hoping this is lighter - around 1100kg (curb weight)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ok na sana yung design kaso 102hp lang.. all show and no go. Shame.
    This will eat dust from even the turboed raize. Or the tiggo2 or the GXpro..

    1. Raize Turbo is underpowered 😂😂

      Delete
    2. Raize turbo has better power to weight ratio than the Xforce. Disappointingly, the weight difference between the Xpander and the Xforce is very minimal, even negligible. Therefore, the XForce would drive like the Xpander in terms of acceleration. As someone who has driven both the Xpander Cross and Raize turbo, the Raize turbo will simple leave the Xpander/Xforce for dead.

      Numbers:
      * Xpander Cross power-to-weight ratio: 84.34 ps/ton
      * Raize turbo power-to-weight ratio: 92.09 ps/ton

      * Xpander Cross 0-100: 14s
      * Raize turbo 0-100: 11s

      These are obviously not performance cars, but one has better performance over the other according to the numbers.

    3. Except coolray, most china cars horse power n torque here are impressive only on BROCHURE but has very dismal performance on actual driving.

  21. This is much better than the DNGA Yaris Cross
    The interior of it is totally different and not a copy-paste
    Ground clearance is also very high which is great news as Mitsubishi Motors knows what the Filipinos,Indonesians and Vietnamese wants
    MItsubishi Motors developed and benchmarked this SUV against the best selling SUVs in its class which are the HRV and Creta

    1. Interior of Xforce is diasppointing, all hard plastics. Even the Xpander has more soft touch trims on the door panel, while in the Xforce, the door cards are purely cheap hard plastic. Other brands use soft touch materials even on the upper door cards like the Yaris Cross, Geely Coolray, and Honda HR-V. Sa Xforce, armrest lang ang soft-touch 🤣

      Delete
    2. If true, that's unfortunate. I hope they build it better and price it better than the Yaris Cross. That Toyota is a nice "catch-up" to the value-packed Chinese brands but still feels kulang for its TOTL non-hybrid @ almost 1.3M. The Coolray which is now 4 years old still seems a better overall option -- build quality, performance, an actual global platform, and huge cash discounts to boot. The only thing Toyota has going for them is the brand name (well, actually a Daihatsu lol) and probably better fuel economy figures with that conservative 1.5 NA engine.

  22. XForce is expected to be the next best selling vehicle in its class when it becomes available in the Philippine market next year
    Filipinos love Mitsubishi products and its designed to the Philippine market that's why the vehicle got very high ground clearance.
    There's a seven seater version of it which is in development and it'll be called Destinator.
