Porsche Celebrates 60 Years Of The 911 With A Lightweight Special Edition

The Porsche 911 is celebrating its 60th birthday by going on a diet and as a result, here comes the limited-edition Porsche 911 S/T. The 1,963-unit run is built for maximum on-road driving enjoyment by combining the high-revving 525-horsepower 911 GT3 RS engine with a manual gearbox and an extensive weight reduction program.

At the heart of the Porsche 911 S/T is its 4.0-liter Flat-6 from the 911 GT3 RS. The 525-horsepower engine is then mated to a short-ratio manual and a new lightweight clutch. 0 to 100 km/h is clocked at just 3.7 seconds, while top speed is pegged at 300 km/h.

The single-mass flywheel alone already saves 10.5 kilograms of rotating mass, but an extensive switch to Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) for exterior panels contribute to a lot more weight loss. Furthermore, it’s the only 911 in the current generation to omit the rear-axle steering while still keeping the front double wishbone, rear multi-link rear axle setup.

Among the body panels now made of CRFP, the front hood, roof, wings, and doors are all made of the material as are the roll cage, rear axle anti-roll bar, and even the shear panel (the stiffening element on the rear axle). Porsche also fitted magnesium wheels, a lithium-ion starter battery, thinner glass, and the carbon ceramic brake system to cut even more mass. As a result, it weighs just 1,380 kilograms—fluids and all.

Despite the focus on cutting weight, the 911 S/T still offers things like 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels (255/35R20s at the front, 315/30R21 at the back) and four-way adjustable sport seats. Setting it apart from other 911s, it has a classic green color scheme on the instrument cluster and the Sport Chrono package.

Would-be Porsche 911 S/T buyers can also opt for the Heritage Design Package too. This blends the Shoreblue Metallic paint color with Ceramica-colored wheels (an exclusive for this package). On the doors, a starting number from 0 to 99 as well as a decorative foil can be applied on request. It even gets the classic-design Porsche crest from the original 911.

The interior also features cloth seat centers in Classic Cognac with black pinstripes, which are another homage to heritage. Two-tone semi-aniline leather trim in Black/Classic Cognac leather with extensive leather surrounds, a roof lining in perforated Dinamica, and other elements from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur round out the package. The Porsche logo and the 911 S/T model designation on the rear of the car are in Gold.

Porsche Philippines can take orders for the 911 S/T, but it’s unknown whether they were able to secure an allocation given its limited-run.
