Chinese luxury vehicle brand Hongqi has entered the Philippines as the second brand distributed by EVOxTerra.
Produced by China FAW Group Corporation, Hongqi is the embodiment of Chinese pride and symbolizes their resilience, strength, and glamour. Today, under their current Global VP of Design, Giles Taylor (former chief designer of Rolls-Royce and Jaguar), Hongqi continues its dedication of elegance and prestige.
For the Philippine market, EVOxTerra has decided on a “dual-power approach”—offering both battery electric and conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.
The Hongqi E-HS9 serves the flagship. It’s offered with dual-motor, all-wheel drive producing a total of 551 horsepower. A 92.5-kWh large capacity battery means a cruising range of around 480 kilometers. It comes in either 6- or 7-seater layout depending on the variant.
The other BEV, the Hongqi E-QM5 widens the brand’s appeal thanks to its more affordable price tag. The compact sedan is powered by a single-motor 136 horsepower electric motor driving the front wheels. The 55-kWh battery gives it a cruising range of about 431 kilometers.
Meanwhile, when it comes to internal combustion engine models, the Hongqi H5 is an executive car that, curiously, shares it platform with the Mazda6 (Mazda GJ platform). However, power is provided by two FAW engines—a turbocharged 1.5- or 2.0-liter paired with either a 7-speed DCT (1.5-liter) or 8-speed automatic (2.0-liter). Features include a panoramic sunroof and front massaging seats.
The final model is the Hongqi H9. The full-sized luxury car comes with either a turbocharged 2.0-liter (252 horsepower) or a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 (283 horsepower). Either way, the transmission is a 7-speed dual clutch automatic. Luxury fitment includes brushed aluminum accents, leather seats, a four-zone climate control, and massaging front seats with ventilation.
The solitary Hongqi dealership is located at the ground floor of the Asian Century Center in Bonifacio Global City.
As for the pricing, it’s as follows:
- Hongqi E-HS9 Executive – P 4,780,000
- Hongqi E-HS9 Deluxe – P 5,380,000
- Hongqi E-HS9 Flagship – P 5,980,000
- Hongqi E-QM5 Executive – P 1,780,000
- Hongqi H5 Executive 35TD – P 1,650,000
- Hongqi H5 Deluxe 40D – P 2,680,000
- Hongqi H9 Deluxe 45TD – P 5,150,000
- Hongqi H9 Flagship 50TD – P 8,080,000
Did not expect Hongqi to have anything below 2M. Pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck is this brand anyway? And its name if translated to English is Red Flag? RED FLAG?? Wat. That’s like putting a “kick me” sign on your back. That’s like shooting yourself in the foot.
DeleteHongqi selling a large sedan EV at below 2 Million Pesos is really good
ReplyDelete'Chinese' and 'luxury'... 2 words that goes well together... just like 'oil' and 'water'
ReplyDeleteAmerica,China and Dubai are the largest markets for luxury vehicles.
DeleteHongqi used to their experience in making Audi and Mazda vehicles into producing local luxury vehicles
Hongqi vehicles used to be sold and used to government employees in China but they've expanded into larger markets.
Sumakit ulo ko sayo brad. Pa inglis inglis kapa eh mali mali grammar mo. Para kang hongki na fake luxury pero ikaw fake inglisero
DeleteVery True. Fake luxury, fake english spkr. :)
DeleteDon’t dismiss these Chinese cars, likely your phone is made in China one way or another!
ReplyDeleteLets say iphone is made in china, but apple is a wholly owned US company, design and testing are made in US (so quality is assured) then assembled by foxcon(a taiwanese company) in china. I highly doubt any pnoy car buyers will spend that much for unproven china cars. Even in china, japan and korea rich people bought western luxury brand for its quality and STATUS SYMBOL.
DeleteFilipinos already spent hundred millions or billions worth of Pesos on Chinese trucks and buses that are worth 3 to 5 Million Pesos š
DeleteOf course but its for business, for personal use they would buy luxury western brands for safety, quality and status symbol. Imagine punta ka golf course mga padrino mo naka bmw, merc, lexus, range rover, lambo, ferrari, cullinan and ikaw naka cullinan wanabe na honggiš¤£š¤£š¤£ you will become the laughing stock of your group
DeleteHongqi is Xi Jinping's State Car. It has that bragging right, for what it's worth.
DeleteEverything is made in China. But not everything is designed in China. Usually it is designed somewhere else but produced in China totally makes a big difference. Don't hate on Hongqi or Chinese cars let the market decide and so far they have spoken overwhelmingly.
ReplyDeleteEh di waw. Overwhelming talaga? Pa check ka sa doktor, nabagok ata ulo mo. baka lumala pa yan
DeleteOverwhelmingly negative
DeleteAre Hongqi cars reliable?
ReplyDeleteThe reliability is questionable at this point. Why risk it? Better get a Lexus at those prices. You'll have the peace of mind.
DeleteFilipino people are very much into STATUS SYMBOL specially the rich, no rich pnoy will buy that honggi. Sa name palang ng car pagtatawanan ka na ng mga padrino mo š¤£š¤£š¤£
ReplyDeleteThere are local businessmans who are wealthy already bought and ordered a Hongqi EV SUV.
DeleteWeh di nga, show proof. Chinese nga sa china western luxury cars ang binibili for status symbol.
DeleteSa sarili nyang mundo maraming bumibili ng hongki
DeleteHongqi is Xi Jinping's State Car. It has that bragging right, for what it's worth.
DeleteXi honggi is nothing compared to north korea kim's MAYBACH LIMO. You see even china's close ally dont want to ride a low status china car.
DeleteKim loves American and European goods
DeleteXi Jinping loves his own country's products
Kim also likes Katy Perry. Didn’t you guys watch the Interview?
DeleteBecause kim knew well what products are safe, reliable, durable and enjoyable.
DeleteWow! We're praising dictators now...
DeleteJust praising kim's magnificient choice of MAYBACH limoššš
DeleteWhy is it that the Chinese love to use DCT?
ReplyDeleteEasier to repair compared to CVT that needs whole replacement
DeleteWhy not just stick to good, old, reliable torque converters then? It's very much easier to service than a complicated DCT.
DeleteViva mazda
DeleteMazda's new transmission for the Large Product Group doesn't have your regular torque converter though, instead it uses a multi-plate clutch. In essence, Mazda is basically using a DCT without calling it a DCT. Very deceptive of Mazda, if you ask me.
DeleteBecuase it's not a DCT. The multi-plate clutch is just to control (engage/disengage) the electric motor and combustion engine. The shifting of the gears itself uses a planetary gear set same as a torque converter AT.
DeleteHow about the CX-60? Does it feel like it's using a DCT?
DeleteGoing by my short experience with the CX-90, which should have a similar transmission with the CX-60, you'll get hints of jerkiness at slow speeds. I honestly don't know the complete mechanical aspects of Mazda's new transmission, but it certainly felt like a DCT. That's why I said it's basically a DCT.
DeleteHongqi E-QM5 EV Sedan is much more affordable than the phased out Chery Arrizo 5 EV and Changan Eado EV..I think its even more value for money than the small BYD Dolphin which is on the same price range.
ReplyDeleteHonggi will not succed here and soon will abandoned ph. Better buy a byd
DeleteHongqi is backed by the Tugade family
DeleteTugade jr has resigned from LTO
DeleteI applaud their courage to penetrate the luxury market here in PH. I wish them well given our geopolitical situation that gullible/misinformed people tend to relate to everything.
ReplyDeleteThere’s always that one edgy guy in the comments always spewing political nonsense.
DeleteCorrect people are misinformed because their brains were hit by a water cannon.
ReplyDeleteFAW used their expertise in making Toyota,Volkswagen,Audi and Mazda vehicles in producing Hongqi luxury vehicles
ReplyDeleteHigh quality and reliable vehicles according Chinese nationals and mainlanders.
š¤£š¤£š¤£FAW merely assembled it in manufacturing plant put up by those foreign brands. its the engine and transmission that matter which untill now china homegrown car brands didnot how to do it reliably and durably. BYD recognized it and they focused on making EV's which are not too complicated to make. BYD and TESLA now the leading EV maker in the world
DeleteThere's this thing called Forced Technology Transfer, and one way China implements this policy is by requiring foreign firms to form joint ventures with its local companies, the foreign firms are then forced to transfer their products' technologies to the JVs. If they don't comply, you miss out on the highly lucrative Chinese market. That's why I highly doubt the partnered Chinese companies got no technology whatsoever out of their foreign partners.
DeleteHongqi vehicles are way more luxurious and prestigious than owning a BYD with shoddy looking interiors
ReplyDeleteHongqi E-HS9 and Hongqi H9 are way more high-quality and luxurious than the overpriced BYD Han and Tang
ReplyDeleteHongqi Philippines made the right move of selling below 2 Million Peso vehicles
Moot point. People wouldn’t touch those brands you mentioned with a ten foot pole.
DeleteNo need to argue about hongqi. Just wait for it to ba a part of statistics.
ReplyDeleteBTW Hongqi translates to "red flag" the symbol of communist China. No being political it is what it is. So stop hating on people associating Chinese cars with politics because the company on its own says so.
ReplyDeleteYes it was already mentioned in the earlier comment above. Stop repeating what's already been said.
DeletePlease read earlier comments to avoid repetition that Hongqi means red flag and it supports communism. Please stop repeating this it is already mentioned
ReplyDeleteCar reviewers from China and Japan are highly impressed with the Hongqi H9 as it drives like Mercedes Benz E Class and Audi A8.
ReplyDeleteHongqi H9 is available in Japan since 2021
yes it may impress with how it drives. but for long term reliability? questionable.
DeleteSaw a Hongqi E-HS9 while driving at Makati today
ReplyDeleteGood looking SUV
I do wish they'll open dealerships at Alabang,Cebu and Davao
Cullinan wanabe
DeleteVery good lineup and pricing
