Mitsubishi To Show Adventure-Ready Electric MPV At Japan Mobility Show

Mitsubishi is acknowledging the popularity of overlanding and outdoorsy lifestyles as it revealed its first teaser of a new concept car which will make its reveal at the Japan Mobility Show (formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show).

Naturally, Mitsubishi is saving the best bits for then, but they did say that the car (van?) is electrified and boasts all-wheel steering. And because it’ll deliver “peace of mind in any weather or road condition,” all-wheel drive is almost a given.

The darkened image only shows the frontal view of the mysterious concept which looks to be huge with a one-box shape. Noteworthy design elements include the T-shaped lights flanking an illuminated Mitsubishi logo.

A peek inside reveals what looks to be a front passenger seat that faces the back suggesting a unique or highly flexible interior. And with the number of people in the teaser image, it suggests a 6-seater configuration (see above).

The official info also harks back to Mitsubishi’s renowned off-road models such as the Pajero as well as the Delica D:5 and the Outlander PHEV. This fuels speculation that the upcoming concept vehicle could combine elements from these models, promising excellent off-road capabilities, a spacious and comfortable interior, and a battery system capable of powering appliances off the grid.

Mitsubishi recently announced 16 new production models scheduled to be released over the next five years. Among the forthcoming models, two minivans are expected—one with a combustion engine and another featuring a self-charging hybrid powertrain.
