The Nissan, Renault, Mitsubishi Alliance is changing the structure by which their vehicles will be designed and engineered. Marking a new chapter for the “Alliance,” it aims to reshape their collaborative model to make it more agile and to improve its global competitiveness.
By the end of 2023, Nissan, Renault, and Mitsubishi will transit from a standardized global model concept towards a project-driven cooperation. This will enable them to deliver products which are more suited to regional requirements while leveraging each member’s geographical strengths, technical resources, and market expertise.
Under the new setup, there will be a lead company which will have the autonomy to define the specifications and processes to match the product requirements of each company while still complying with the regulations for the related region.
The Alliance says this move fits with the new trends seen in the automotive industry as markets are becoming more and more regional due to the differences in regulations, in the path of electrification as well as in connectivity needs. This new set-up will ensure quicker decisions and operational efficiencies along several dimensions: markets, technologies, vehicles and beyond, to support the implementation of common projects for Europe, Latin America, and India.
So this won't even work for the Southeast Asian market since Nissan doesn't even have much significance there, due to how Nissan preferred not to behave like Toyota and Honda (because the two share the same values and cultures given how reliable their cars are), it seems what Nissan wants to destroy the brand itself is to maintain the partnership with Renault at the same time the former would rather build nothing but electric-only cars as how former POTUS Donald Trump said many times that he is not in favour of electric vehicles because the Donald is a staunch defender of cars that are only powered with fossil fuel. (Of course since Nissan also builds cars in Mexico as Toyota does then with Trump's ambition would have been to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border means he for example would have enforced Nissan to stop making cars in Mexico and build many of them in Vietnam or the Philippines since Trump sees the latter two as having problems with China just as himself does.)
