Still based off the “U11” X1, the “U10” X2 gets more differentiation apart from the aggressively sloping roofline. For starters, there’s a unique front-end with LED headlights and an almost hexagonal kidney grille. The grille itself can be lit (BMW Iconic Glow) as seen on the brand’s higher-end models. The roofline itself flows along an unbroken path into the rear end creatin a coupe-shaped silhouette. Like its larger siblings, the X4 and X6, the X2 has prominent wheel arches (with up to 21-inch wheels available) and muscular shoulders.

In terms of size, the all-new X2 is now at 4,554 mm long and 1,845 mm wide—longer and wider by 194 mm and 21 mm, respectively. It’s also higher by 64 mm (1,590 mm). A longer wheelbase and wider tracks benefit cabin space, and the cargo hold is up from 470 liters to 560 liters, expandable to 1,470 liters (525 liters to 1,400 liters on the iX2, the EV variant).

The combustion engine range is topped by the X2 M35i xDrive. Its 2.0-liter motor generates up to 317 horsepower (300 horsepower in Europe) and 400 Nm enabling it to reach 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds. M-specific chassis tuning and adaptive suspension help put all that power to the pavement while also increasing its agility and long-distance touring capability.

For those who don’t need all that power, there’s also the X2 sDrive20i. The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder here produces 156 horsepower and 240 Nm thanks to BMW’s TwinPower Turbo and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. It also happens to be available with a 2.0-liter diesel motor (X2 sDrive18d) making 150 horsepower and 360 Nm.

New to the X2 range is the availability of a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) version: the iX2 xDrive30. Using BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive motor, its dual motor setup produces a total of 313 horsepower and 494 Nm. This is enough for a 5.6-second 0 to 100 km/h sprint, a 180 km/h electronically limited top speed, and a range of up to 449 kilometers thanks to a 64.7 kWh battery.

Compared to the X1, the X2 gets “targeted upgrades” to its all-around independent suspension. Near-actuator wheel slip limitation is fitted as standard, benefiting both traction and directional stability. Other new features include the integrated braking system and the extra, lift-related damping at the front axle.

When it comes to the interior, it’s closely related to the current X1 down to the BMW Curved Display and the center “floating” arm rest. Options include sport seats, vegan “Veganza” leather, and “Vernasca” leather with quilting. Features include a dual zone climate control, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a panoramic sunroof whose dark-tinted glass surface extends right up to the windscreen and the roof frame on either side, and a long way back in a single section into the rear part of the roof.

Naturally, the X2 and iX2 get BMW’s latest operating system—BMW Operating System 9. This offers the ability to unlock and upgrade existing features via remote software upgrade (BMW ConnectedDrive Store).

The new X2 and iX2 will be produced on a single, flexible assembly line at BMW’s Regensburg plant. The global market launch will start in March 2024, and a couple of months from there, a second iX2 variant and another diesel-engine X2 will join the range.
