Hyundai Motor Philippines bridges the gap between its two MPV offerings, the compact Stargazer and its full-sized Staria, with the first-ever Hyundai Custin. Named after the French explorer and inventor Jacques Cousteau, the unibody three-row American-style MPV carries an avant-garde aesthetic and blends it with more traditional luxury MPV traits at an affordable price point.
The Custin’s grand appearance is characterized by its Sensuous Sportiness design language. Upfront, the Parametric Dynamics language is shown by the black diamond grille that also happens to hide the LED daytime running lights. Slim LED headlights flank the upright grille. At the back, it has full-length LED taillights.
Function and form come together with the Custin’s dual power sliding doors. A low step-in height allows easy access into the cabin for everyone in the family. Inside, the second row features individual Captain Seats with power operation as well as heating and ventilation features. A double pane panoramic sunroof, second row wireless charger, dual seatback tables, and built-in sun blinds make it one luxurious MPV.
Already leading in terms of luxury features, the Custin pushes the envelope with its technology features. At the center is a portrait-style 10.4-inch screen that gives the driver more intuitive control while also incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other tech-related features include a digital gauge cluster, a push-button style shifter, and electronic parking brake with auto hold.
Powering the Custin is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine putting out 170 horsepower and 253 Nm of torque. The CVVD or Continuously Variable Valve Duration in the Smartstream G engine regulates the duration of valve opening and closing according to driving conditions thereby boosting performance by up to 3 percent at low and medium speeds, while lowering fuel consumption by 3 percent. This cutting-edge engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic driving the front wheels.
Equipped with Hyundai SmartSense, the Custin achieves Level 2 semi-autonomous driving. Features include adaptive cruise control with stop & go support, full-speed lane keep assist and lane departure warning, and blind spot collision avoidance.
The 2024 Custin comes with a starting price of P 1,770,000 for the T-GDI GLS and P 2,080,000 for the T-GDI Premium model. It comes in three colors: Military Gray Metallic, Polar White, and Aurora Blue Pearl. The beige interior is exclusively for the T-GDI Premium, while the all-black interior is for the T-GDI GLS.

Imported from China or Vietnam? Either way, looks like the Innova (Zenix and 2nd-gen diesel V) finally has direct competition from a non-Chinese car brand after a long time at that price.
ReplyDeleteSourced from China.
DeleteInteresting that HMPH backtracked on their statement regarding China-made vehicles. I remember them saying that they will only import cars from Korea or Indonesia; maybe that only applied for their first year as distributors. This will probably be a more successful China import for Hyundai than the Reina was.
DeleteMade in China but R&D is still Hyundai right???
DeleteYup, Highly agree. You hit it right in the nail!
DeleteAnd this one's bringing very good guns against zenix and innova V.
Made in China Hyundai, sounds scary.
DeleteAnother blockbuster from the new Hyundai!
DeleteAnd finally, a proper Innova/Zenix competitor.
IMHO dont think this hyundai mpv will be beating the toyota zenix any time soon.....
ReplyDeleteAt last the long wait has come?
ReplyDeleteDoes it really have ACC? Based on photos from other media, I'm not seeing buttons for it.
ReplyDeleteWell priced, better than zenix
ReplyDeleteMade in China by BAIC Hyundai just like the Hyundai Reina
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke!
ReplyDeleteI hope the reviews will find motivation adequate. For its size, I expected a mild hybrid to assist with acceleration or the diesel from Tucson for brute pulling power.
ReplyDeleteChina cars should copy its 8 speed trans and ditch those not so good, jerky dct
ReplyDeleteNice to finally have competition to the ever present Innova even to the older one still being sold.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice on paper. A little smaller than a Carnival. Looks like you a get decent amount of room for passengers. Cargo space, not so much by the looks of it. So, a 'Chinese-Korean' car... hmm. The only let down for me is the 1.5 liter gas engine, typical of all China-sourced vehicles. Even with the turbo, they're terribly under powered. I was hoping it would've been a Diesel like the Kia Carnival. Asking for a Hybrid, electric, phev (for fuel-saving and coding exempt purposes) would be a stretch at this price point, I know.
ReplyDeleteThink JDM Odyssey and that's how the Custin is priced. It has the same low floor construction as well.
DeleteDoubt any diesel will be available because this is sourced from China (they're not big fans of diesel).
This MPV won't sell much because it's expensive. If the allnew Innova couldn't be seen on the Street much more for this unknown new Hyundai model. Better buy the new StargazerX.
ReplyDeleteIs this the same 1.5l engine in the stargazer?
ReplyDeleteNot exactly as the Custin is turbocharged and uses CVVD tech.
DeleteGAC GN6 still priced way better than the Zenix, Custin and the old Innova at 1.260M
ReplyDeleteZenix hybrid still very difficult to buy only non hybrid is available. The only letdown from Hyundai is the engine 1.5turbo will be lucky to get in real world 7kml.
ReplyDeleteFinally with Sliding doors🥰🥰🥰💪💪💪
ReplyDeleteWait is over!!! MPV with sliding doors i’t’s about time
ReplyDeleteHere in ph napag iiwanan na talaga ang kia ng hyundae, ANYARE ACmotors???
ReplyDeleteDoes the Custin Premium have stop and go adaptive cruise control? The Hyubdai brochure states "cruise control - with"
