Toyota and its premium brand, Lexus will attempt to steal the spotlight at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show with sportscar concepts that show what performance cars could look like in the age of battery electric vehicles.
Over at Toyota, their pavilion will showcase the FT-Se and the FT-3e. Not much have been revealed aside from a couple of teaser photos, but it’s clear that the FT-Se features a low and wide stance. It’s also badged not with the typical Toyota “T” but with the Gazoo Racing badge. Inside, it’s said to offer what Toyota calls a “next-generation cockpit” with intuitive controls. The low-set instrument panel will offer better front visibility, while kneepads will protect the driver from G-forces during “spirited driving.”
Next to the GT-Se, the FT-3e is being touted as a next-generation battery electric SUV. It will share the same platform as the GT-Se. Being a concept, it’ll have an external digital display running on the side panel to provide users information such as the state of charge, interior air quality and temperature.
Over to the Lexus side, the premium Japan brand with all electric aspirations (they plan to become purely BEV by 2035) will also showcase the frontrunner of its new platform (perhaps shared with Toyota).
The sportscar concept will likely continue what the previously shown Lexus Electrified Sport Concept. It will spawn a production version by 2026. Plans are for it to debut new lithium-ion and even solid-state batteries delivering a range between 800 to 1,000 kilometers.
