Ram has launched the all-new Ram 1500 pickup truck that offers, among many things, “unlimited battery-electric range.” Yeah, that’s the exact term Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis used to describe its new extended range EV (think Nissan Kicks e-Power with a charging port)—the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger.
The Ram 1500 Ramcharger comes with 663 horsepower and 834 Nm of torque enough for a 4-ish zero to 100 km/h time, 2,625 lbs of payload (1.2 tons), 14,000 lbs (6.35 tons) of towing, and zero range anxiety.
The secret here is the powertrain. The 1500 Ramcharger still has a 92-kWh battery pack and a pair of electric drive motors—250 kW (340 horsepower) at the front and 238 kW (323 horsepower) at the back. This alone is enough for 233 kilometers between charges and thanks to a fast-charge system (400-volts), it can add around 80 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. However, unlike other EVs, Ram decided to add 3.6-liter V6 into the mix too. The 177 horsepower (130 kW) motor allows the Ramcharger to reach more than 1,100 kilometers on a tank of gas before refueling.
And like other EVs, the 1500 Ramcharger offers vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) bi-directional charging.
Per Ram, power flows in sequence from the 3.6-liter V-6 engine to the on-board 130-kW generator. The engine generates mechanical power that is converted to electrical power by the generator. The electrical power can be used to charge the battery when the battery is depleted or if the driver wants to preserve the battery power. It can also be applied to the high-voltage bus where the motors can use a combination of the generated power and energy stored in the batteries to provide maximum power to the wheels. There is no direct mechanical path from the engine to the wheels.
The 1500 Ramcharger is built on the new corporate STLA Frame architecture that’ll be used in other full-sized EVs too. The all-new high-strength steel frame is comprised of advanced materials to be lightweight, yet stiff and durable. The STLA Frame is wider in the middle to efficiently incorporate the battery pack while still using protection afforded by the frame rails.
Class-leading ride and handling is assured with the Ramcharger’s multi-link independent suspension with active-leveling, four-corner air suspension.
Inside, the 1500 Ramcharger offers a 14.5-inch touchscreen that commands the infotainment system and another 10.25-inch screen on the passenger side to control navigation, device management, and entertainment options via a high-definition multimedia interface. The passenger display also can show views from the exterior cameras.
Features found include 24-way powered front seats which are both heated and ventilated, a Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system with 23 speakers, and dual wireless chargers.
On the outside, the Ramcharger has a new EV-specific LED taillight design. The grille sports a lit Ram logo like the REV and has an evolved "tuning fork" lighting aesthetic.
Apart from the Ramcharger, Ram says they’ll be updating the gasoline-powered Ram 1500 trucks as well with new engines. The new Hurricane engines will be offered in standard and high-output versions. The standard version will be rated at 420 horsepower and 636 Nm, while the high-output is rated at 540 horsepower and 706 Nm. Interestingly, this high-output version out grunts the Hemi V8 by 145 horsepower and 149 Nm.
Uhh that's not unlimited
ReplyDeleteSo, basically, it's a plug-in hybrid.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a big Chevy Volt.
ReplyDeleteMore of a Nissan kicks, self generating type and not plug-in
ReplyDeleteIt's got a charging port. We were very clear about that.
DeleteHow much does it weigh? 10,000 lb?
DeleteIs this self sufficient ev? Drive is electric motors that gas engine is used to charge batteries? So stop fill gas and keep going. If so this is what looking for. No need use charging port. In fact offer price brake to drop plug in charging port
ReplyDeleteWhat's the estimated price tags?
ReplyDeleteIf you have to ask, you can't afford it.
