Foton Philippines has quietly brought in automatic variants of its Traveller X and Toano MPVs. The Traveller X 16-seater AT is priced at P 1.7 million, while the Toano AT is priced at P 2,990,000.
Both the Traveller X and Toano swap out their 2.8-liter Cummins ISF engine for a 2.0-liter turbo diesel developed in-house by Foton. This leaner engine delivers 135 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 330 Nm of torque at 1,800 rpm. Paired to this is a new 6-speed automatic transmission.
Apart from its new gearbox, the Traveller X gets an aesthetic refresh headlined by the larger chrome grille. Now made to visually extend to the bumpers, it gives a more commanding presence to the MPV. Meanwhile, inside, all 16 occupants are assured of comfort with AC vents reaching all the way to the back.
On the other hand, the Toano large dimensions means being able to fit not just one, but two pairs of Captain’s Seats. Unique to these Captain’s Seats (with leg rests), they are rotatable, meaning occupants can actually carry a conversation face-to-face inside. In addition, it has a 14-inch roof-mounted LCD monitor and 220-volt outlets aboard.
Foton Philippines will soon add an AT variant to its Thunder 4x4 pickup truck as well. Unlike the MPVs, the Thunder will have eight forward gears as well as a full gamut of airbags for added safety.
