The Lexus RZ Gains A New Long-Range Variant For 2024

Lexus’ first purpose-built battery electric vehicle, the RZ, gets some tweaks for 2024, including a new variant that offers 20 percent range.

For 2024, Lexus has added a new RZ 300e to the line-up. Powered by a slightly larger 72.8-kWh battery (versus the RZ 450e’s 71.4-kWh), this front-wheel drive variant of the RZ is the long-range champ thanks to its US-EPA estimated 428-kilometer range. This is versus the RZ 450e’s 354-kilometer range.

The RZ 300e shares the 450e’s front electric motor and for that, it gets 204 horsepower (150 kW). However, because of the absence of the rear electric motor, Lexus has opted to develop a new subframe. This subframe suppresses vibrations and noise, contributing to a smooth and quiet ride.

New to the RZ this 2024 is its dual-voltage charging cable which means it’s able to charge using both 110V and 240V household outlets.

Under ideal conditions, the RZ can charge from 0 to 100 percent in approximately 9.5 hours with a Level 2 charger and from 0 to 80 percent in approximately 30 to 35 minutes with a DC fast charger.

Elsewhere, the RZ 300e is offered with options that closely echo the range-topping RZ 450e. These include the option of 20-inch wheels, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 13-speaker Mark Levinson speaker system, and the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0.

The updated Lexus RZ is still built at the Motomachi Plant in Toyota City, Japan, and goes on sale in select markets starting this month. No word if Lexus Philippines will offer this long-range version of the RZ in 2024.

  1. Will it's batteries still be supplied by Panasonic or CATL?
