The Women’s World Car of the Year is changing its name in 2024, reflecting its new aim. Starting next year, they will be known as the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (same WWCOTY acronym remains).
The replacement of the word, World, with Worldwide in its name is the first step in a strategy that aims to bring together the voices of all women drivers—regardless of their country of origin, culture, race, age, or creed.
The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year will be the new name of the organization, which since its beginnings has fought to give visibility to women in the automotive world.
Currently, the WWCOTY is made up of 75 professionals from 52 countries, including the Philippines. This is more so than the self-proclaimed “World Car of the Year” which is made predominantly of journalists from the United States (and none of important caliber in the Philippines).
“It is a slight change in our name, but very important in terms of strategy because our mission is not only to choose the best cars of the year, but also to ensure there is considerable representation of women in the automotive sector”, says Marta García, executive president of WWCOTY.
The WWCOTY’s 500 million cross viewership is proof that the expectations with which the WWCOTY was born in 2009 have been far exceeded.
The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year will continue to grow in 2024, rewarding the best cars, the best initiatives and drawing attention to everything that can contribute to increasing the visibility of women in the automotive industry.
