What's Changed With The 2024 Toyota Corolla Altis? A Full Rundown (w/ Specs)

Last October, we reported that Toyota Motor Philippines quietly updated the Corolla Altis line-up. Now, as stocks of the updated 2024 model start rolling into local showrooms, we have a complete picture of what’s new and what’s changed.

To recall, we noticed that Toyota dropped the 1.6-liter 1ZR-FE engine from the non-hybrid variants of the Corolla Altis. Instead, these variants—the 1.8 E and 1.8 G now benefit from the 2ZR-FE engine. Shared with the Corolla Cross, the additional 200 cc of displacement adds 18 horsepower and 19 Nm of torque for a new output of 140 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 172 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The sole hybrid variant, the 1.8 GR-S HEV remains unchanged.

Likewise, Toyota has dropped the MT variant in favor of an all CVT range starting with the 1.8 E CVT at P 1,135,000. This variant is clearly speced more for fleets as its specs are as basic as they come. You get 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/55R16 tires, keyless entry with a turn key ignition system, and a rotary manual air conditioning system. But, at least an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay is now standard for its infotainment system.

Moving up, there’s the 1.8 G (officially known as the 1.8 G GR-S now) grade at P 1,302,000. It adds a push engine start/stop, automatic climate control, a 7-inch TFT gauge cluster, and the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) features on top of a reverse camera. Plus, it now dons the Gazoo Racing Sport or GR Sport appearance package down to the 225/45R17 wheels and tires.

Finally, there’s the 1.8 GR-S HEV which carries all the specs and features of the 1.8 G GR-S along with an electrified powertrain (2ZR-FXE), automatic LED headlights, a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless CarPlay, wireless charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, blind spot monitors, and a 360-degree camera. This one, for those interested, is priced at P 1,730,000.

As for colors, the 2024 Corolla Altis comes five colors:

  • Red Mica Metallic – 1.8 G GR-S
  • Attitude Black Mica – 1.8 G GR-S, 1.8 E

    1. Don't always look at the price. Cheaper doesn't mean better. Remember that you get what you pay for.

    2. It should be considered as "false advertising" to market cars with CVTs as "Sport" since CVTs generally not allowed in motorsports.

      Its like basketball without dribbling.

  2. Nope to unproven, low value, low prestige empow, you will regret later. the legendary corolla is the best choice, its the best car of all time(in terms of sales). If you want performance with prestige just add a little more and go for honda civic.

  3. GAC Empow maybe cheaper but not better...

  4. The empow is better than the corolla's 13 year old engine that eats oil and unfixable valve seals issues.
Its also hard on maintenance for 4x a year PMS.

    1. Legendary Corolla already sold more than 50M units due to its proven reliability and durability. empow also selling well...5 units a month

  6. Any respectable mechanic would rather work on a bad Toyota engine than a "reliable" GAC empow.

  7. If Toyata's engine reached that 13-year life and still being used at present, kind the old for its generation but durability and reliability were proven. How many years now is the current GAC empow's engine?

    3. Why stress about engine problems when in the future majority will all be electrified?
