Just when we thought that the next vehicle to be launched by SAIC Motor Philippines would be the MG ZS EV, it seems they’re prioritizing a combustion engine model first in the form of the 2024 MG One.
To recall, the MG One was previewed last December and at the time, SAIC Motor Philippines said it would come with a price tag not exceeding P 1.4 million. Sadly, it might be a tad higher as the MG One Lux variant will be priced at P 1,458,888. UPDATE (2/20): There is another variant, the MG One Std which will be priced, reportedly, at P 1,298,888.
Note that this is nothing official, but if this is proven to be correct, it’s a bit more expensive than the MG HS Trophy (P 1,308,888). Nonetheless, it’s a feature-packed offering a turbocharged and direct-injected 1.5-liter mated to a CVT. Outputs are pegged at 181 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque. And get this, unlike its similarly-priced competition, it’s got independent suspension at all four corners thanks to the brand’s true global platform called SAIC Motor Intelligent Global Architecture or SIGMA platform.
According to information we’ve been able to gather, the MG One Lux sports the brand’s “Dual Front Face” design with a three-bar LED DRL, LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, twin aero rear spoiler, and a two-tone roof.
The MG One measures in at 4,579 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width, and 1,601 mm in height. It sports a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, and with that, lands it squarely in the traditional compact SUV segment size-wise.
Inside, the MG One Lux comes with a 30-inch wrap-around triple screen facing the driver, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, an electronic shift lever, push-button start/stop, “leather style seats” with power adjustment, wireless device charger, electric seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
For safety, it’ll come with 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program with hill hold control, tire pressure monitors, and a 360-degree camera.
The MG One could be formally launched for the Philippine market before the end of the month. Naturally, once the official prices and specs do come out, we will be doing an update for sure. Right now though, if the specs and pricing hold true, what do you think of this new compact crossover?

Deletereliability and durability should be the 1st consideration in buying a car. Most china cars here in ph has already proven to be not reliable and durable. Ph car buyers has already a not so good feedback from those who bought china cars. Thats why after more than a decade they still have a very small % market share.
