2024 Subaru Forester GT Wild Lite Aims To Tackle The Trails

A couple of months back, Motor Image’s Glenn Tan confirmed that an off-road centric version of the Forester is in the works. The Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Tan Chong International, the parent company of Motor Image, said that this was made as a response to the growing popularity of off-road centric setups in the markets where Subaru is present in ASEAN.

Today, we finally have our first good look courtesy of Motor Image Malaysia. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Subaru Forester GT Wild Lite.

For the Malaysian market, the Forester GT Wild Lite is a special kit that will be installed at select Motor Image dealerships there. For the Philippine market, it’s safe to assume that it will join the Forester line-up formally as a new variant.

The Forester GT Wild Lite takes a Forester GT Lite, aero kit and all, and paints them all in a monotone black finish for a more rugged look. The same goes for the grille which removes the chrome garnish in favor of an all-black appearance. From there, it takes a cue from the North American Forester Wilderness in the form of the anti-glare hood decal. The same matte-black decal is present on the front bumper, but that’s understood not be included in the package.

Over to the side, the Forester GT Wild Lite receives a large mountain range decal spanning both the front and rear doors, while the 18-inch alloy wheels have a new design and sport all-terrain Yokohama Geolandar tires with white raised outline lettering.

As Glenn Tan confirmed, the Forester GT Wild Lite will feature no modifications to its running gear. That means keeping the same 2.0-liter normally-aspirated boxer engine with 156 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque paired to a CVT and the brand’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

The ground clearance, at 220 mm, remains unchanged too. Don’t fret because the Forester GT Wild Lite gets the Special X-Mode system with a special deep snow/mud mode in addition to the standard snow/dirt mode. It also comes with the EyeSight 4.0 which bundles pre-collision braking, autonomous emergency steering, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and lane departure prevention.

In Malaysia, Motor Image is already accepting inquiries for the Forester GT Wild Lite. For the Philippine market, expect it to make its public debut soon, perhaps as early as the end of February or even early March.

  1. Same engine same mechanicals but more stickers. Subaru engineers hard at work. Next project forester luxury line with lobsters and caviar stickers on the side.

  2. Ugly rims and stickers
Better buy the regular one at discounted price.
