2024 Toyota Corolla Cross: This Is It

As revealed last January, Toyota has started 2024 by updating its Corolla Cross for the ASEAN market. Revealed in Thailand, the refreshed version brings a heft of cosmetic and technology updates to their well-received compact crossover.

Outside, the Corolla Cross gets a unique front-end for the ASEAN market. The controversial catfish mouth grille of the previous model is now gone and replacing it is one that emulates the likes of the Lexus LBX. The new grille aside, it gets new “crystal” LED headlights with sequential front turn signal lights and a tweaked rear bumper. For hybrid models, Toyota has dropped the Hybrid badge in favor of their global Beyond Zero badging with the words, “HEV.” For higher trim models, a new design for its 18-inch alloy wheels and a frameless panoramic moonroof complete the changes. The Corolla Cross GR Sport remains changed save for the new headlight cluster.

Inside, the Corolla Cross ditches the foot operated parking brake for an electronic one that’s supplemented with an auto hold function. The infotainment screen has grown to 10.1-inches and now supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. A 7-inch TFT driver’s display is now standard, but that grows to a fully-digital setup on higher models with a 12.3-inch display. Other changes include dual climate control, LED interior lighting, a built-in dash cam, and USB Type C ports front and back.

For colorways, a new color—Cement Gray Metallic joins the palette, while an available Dark Rose interior option is now available next to the standard Black interior. A two-tone paint option remains an available choice for the Corolla Cross GR Sport.

Finally, when it comes to safety, most models are now equipped with Toyota Safety Sense. The system has been further improved with the addition all-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera with Parking Support Brake System which will apply the brakes automatically if it detects a collision is imminent when backing up.

Mechanically, the Corolla Cross isn’t changed for 2024. This means keeping the 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE for the hybrid with 122 horsepower. The electric motor though has been tweaked for improved quietness, while the battery, a 600-volt nickel metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery voltage has been retained from before. A non-hybrid is still offered, and this one, at least for the Thai market, is powered by the 1.8-liter 2ZR-FBE. This engine makes similar outputs to the local 2ZR-FE: 140 horsepower and 177 Nm.

The updated Corolla Cross now goes on sale in Thailand. With the Philippines also sourcing its units from the Kingdom, expect these updates to arrive soon. The fact that Toyota Motor Philippines is throwing in an P 80,000 discount on the current Corolla Cross models is a sure sign that they are clearing their inventory to make way for the updated model. So, if these new changes are not really a deal breaker for you, make sure to get your Corolla Cross with additional savings right now.

  5. Saved money on a grille by punching holes on the bumper. While it may look ok on some cars (depending on shape and pattern of the cutouts), this just screams cost-cutting. Not a bad thing in itself but this is a premium car, price- and technology-wise.

  6. Hmmm... I don't think you can consider the Corolla Cross as a premium car. Not even Toyota does judging how they made do with parts from other models as mo'y reviewers say.

  7. Automakera copy one another a lot in this day and age. It's really hard to say whose design is the original and best. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

HEV variants if you include the trade-in rebate. 60K without the trade-in rebate. <-- This one covers all variants.

    2. Thank you. Valuable info since I’m looking at the V HEV. 60k might help in accepting the foot parking brake in the 2023 model.

  10. I like the interior of the Corolla Cross, the car dimensions are ideal and the 140 horsepower and 177 torque of the engine is just right, not the typical 110HP, 140NM of most 1.5L crossovers. That said, the front grill or holes punched on the front panel to be more precise, copied from some Chinese designs and from Lexus wont age well and their previous catfish grill coupled with that bulbous headlights and tail lights are not aesthetically pleasing to look at either and is a huge turn off. Before they use metal for grills, then plastic, now they just punch holes on the panel and call it a grill. One may argue that looks are subjective but like the others, I find those rims really look cheap, plasticky and ugly and I think TMP should replace them. The grills and tail lights of the previous gen BRV are also not pleasing to look at but their new gen BRV's grills, taillights and general aesthetics are a sight to behold just like the new CRVs. Toyota can learn a thing or two.
