Honda has completed the renovation of the Honda Collection Hall at the Mobility Resort Motegi in Tochigi, Japan (read our walkthrough). The facility that conveys the history of Honda will re-open to the public on March 1, 2024.
As a brief history, in 1998, in commemoration of the company’s 50th anniversary, Honda opened the Collection Hall. The exhibits included Honda products such as automobiles, motorcycles, and power products as well as racing machines, and the Collection Hall celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
With its renovation, the exhibits have changed—now focusing on “stories of dreams and challenges.” Panels that chronicle the carmaker’s history from its founding are now installed on each floor. An audio tour and guided tour by staff members are also available for a full visual and auditory experience.
In the entrance hall on the first floor, a full-size interior mockup model of the HondaJet Elite II is now on display. Moreover, new exhibits that enable visitors to touch and feel Honda mobility products have been added, including an opportunity to ride the latest Uni-One personal mobility device.
The Library & Design Gallery was newly added to the Collection Hall as an open community space. The library can be used not only as an area where visitors can take a break while enjoying a variety of motorcycle and automobile magazines, but also as a space to host various workshop events. In the design gallery area, several product design sketches drawn by Honda designers and artworks related to Honda mobility will be on display.
The exhibition areas are divided into four sections by era, and exhibits are arranged in a way that’s easy for visitors to understand the unique characteristics of each era:
- 2F South Wing – Founding to 1970s
- 2F North Wing – 1970s to 1985
- 3F South Wing – 1985 to 2000s
- 3F North Wing – 2000s to present
