The "Electric-First" All-New Peugeot 5008 Has Just Debuted

After showing off its five-seater form in the Peugeot 3008, Peugeot is now showing its electric-first all-new 5008 (e-5008)—a three-row, 7-seater SUV that offers up to 660 kilometers of range.

Remaining committed to becoming an all-electric brand, the e-5008 rides on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform. For its duties in the e-5008, the wheelbase has been expanded to 2,900 mm, while the length remains at a relatively compact 4,790 mm. Height is set at 1,890 mm.

Built exclusively at Peugeot’s Sochaux plant in France, it comes in BEV, PHEV, and MHEV versions.

In the BEV, the two-wheel drive versions offer 210 horsepower (157 kW) and 345 Nm or 230 horsepower (170 kW) and 345 Nm of torque. Moving up, the two-motor all-wheel drive version produces a combined 322 horsepower (237 kW) with 345 Nm of torque.

The 400-volt lithium-ion battery is located under the floor and features thermal management with coolant circulation. This allows for ultra-fast charging, optimized battery life, and a longer life span. It accepts AC charging either in 11- or 22-kW, while for DC charging, it accepts up to 160 kW recharging it from 20 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

A Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) version makes 195 horsepower (150 horsepower from the combustion engine and 125 horsepower from the electric motor). This one has an all-electric range of 80 kilometers. Meanwhile, the 5008 Hybrid with its 48-volt hybrid system couples its 136-horsepower engine and 6-speed dual clutch to a small electric motor. In urban confines, it can operate 50 percent of the time in electric mode.

The all-new 5008 features Peugeot’s new lighting signature and a grille that blends into the body color. On higher-end GT models, the Pixel LED technology automatically adapts the headlights to traffic conditions, maintaining optimal lighting without causing glare to other road users.

The number of decorative inserts and chrome parts have been removed altogether in favor of splashes of paint on specific areas. The side window seals on the doors have also been concealed, while at each corner are wheels sized from 19 to 21 inches.

Inside, the 5008 has the “next-level Panoramic i-Cockpit” that integrates the heads-up display and large central touchscreen into a curved 21-inch high-def panel. Ambient lighting under the screen accentuates the “floating effect.” As always, a compact steering wheel and ten customizable toggle switches are found here.

The second-row of the 5008 has a 60/40 split-fold bench with a backrest that folds in a 40/20/40 split. In addition, these backrests recline independently.

Access to the third-row is made quick with its Easy Access system. This allows the second-row seats to be fully tilted and slid forward simultaneously. Combined with the wide opening offered by the large rear doors, this system makes it easy for passengers of all sizes to fit into the seats of the third row.

In terms of trunk volume, in the 5-seater configuration it has 748 liters and 259 liters in the 7-seater configuration. Dropping both second- and third-row down, it goes up to 1,815 liters.

Features of the 5008 include a panoramic sunroof, an Air Quality System, and seats that can be covered either in a combination of leather effect and fabric or leather effect and Alcantara. The optional seats even come with a certification from AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken) a label by a German association of doctors and therapists that encourages research into the prevention of back pain.

For safety, the 5008 can be had with a 360-degree camera system as well as 40 driver assistance and safety systems.
