Chery Auto PH Issues Service Inspection Recall For Tiggo 5X Pro SUV

UPDATE: Omoda & Jaecoo issued a statement. See the quote below.

Did Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines just blatantly lie regarding the snapping rear axle issue on its Omoda 5? After assuring us that the issue is limited to just models produced at Omoda (Chery)’s assembly plant in Malaysia, the same issue has now popped up on a different, but related Chery model: the Tiggo 5X Pro.

Unlike O&J Philippines, which seems to sweep any unfavorable news under the rug, Chery Auto Philippines, in the spirit of transparency and the right way of doing business, has opted to open a service inspection campaign of 2024 Chery Tiggo 5X Pro SUVs.

Distributed by UAAGI or United Asia Automotive Group, Inc., this marks the first time a Chinese automaker has publicly addressed a potential quality or safety issue regarding one of its vehicles.

90 Chery Tiggo 5X Pro non-hybrid SUVs, all from the 2024 model year, may be suffering from the same problem with the Omoda 5 in that rear axle may suddenly snap off during hard driving. According to Chery Auto Philippines, they have received word straight from Chery International that this is due to insufficient weld bead dimensions on its rear torsion beam assembly.

Despite having different exterior and interior designs, the Tiggo 5X Pro and the Omoda 5 share the same platform, the T1X platform, and therefore, potentially the same rear axle assembly.

For its part, Omoda & Jaecoo says that the Omoda 5 destined for the Philippine market are not included in the said issue. The only recall is for the Tiggo 5X. The Omoda 5 for the Philippine market is not involved in the recall.

Chery Auto Philippines says all affected customers will receive official notification letters and will be asked to contact an authorized Chery dealer to facilitate the inspection of the rear axle assembly. The inspection will take just 30 minutes. If replacement is required, it will take around five hours to replace which will be conducted at no charge to vehicle owners.

The following VIN numbers are affected by the said inspection:
