In their second statement in as many days, Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines (O&J Philippines) is saying that none of the upcoming Omoda 5 crossovers headed to the market are affected by the snapping axle issue that’s plagued customers in Malaysia.
O&J Philippines country manager Marco Chen already aired his side of the story, but the company also issued its own statement detailing the issues surrounding the Malaysian-assembled Omoda 5s. This is their statement:
“The recalled model in the Malaysian market is the Omoda 5, manufactured locally via the KD [Knocked Down] way. Recently, in accordance with relevant regulations in Malaysia, an application was submitted to the Malaysian market supervision and management authority to recall a total of 600 units of the Omoda 5 models.”The Omoda 5, along with the Tiggo 8 Pro, are locally assembled in Malaysia for the Malaysian market since August 2023 using KD kits from China. Since Malaysia is Omoda (Chery)’s production hub for right-hand drive models, vehicles made here will be exported to markets such as Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, and Australia. Vietnam, despite being left-hand drive, will also source its Omoda (Chery) vehicles from Malaysia as well.
Weirdly enough, Indonesia has its own assembly plant that pieces the Omoda 5 together. The kicker is that it uses the same KD kit methodology as Malaysia with parts sourced from, where else, China. About 420 of these Indonesian-made Omoda 5s have been recalled as well since they may potentially suffer the same fault as their Malaysian-made counterparts.
We have asked O&J Philippines to comment on the issue in Indonesia, and this article will be updated to reflect that.
In its investigation, Omoda (Chery) discovered that a worn-out tip of an automated welding machine at the supplier of the rear axle assembly had been replaced with a new tip but the equipment had not been recalibrated. This means the rear trailing arm may not have been welded securely in place.
O&J Philippines’ statement has stated that the Malaysian plant has already resolved this issue and that no Omoda 5 units destined for the Philippines have the issue given that all units here will be built from the brand’s factory in China.

DeleteAbsolutely no affected units because this distributor was struggling even opening single showroom in over a year of too much publicity. Too much promises. In fact sister company JETOUR will have it's issues soon.
