Chery Auto PH To Offer More Electrified Vehicles In H2 2024

Following its dealer network expansion plans, Chery Auto Philippines, under United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), is set to launch three new SUV/crossover offerings in the second half of 2024. This was confirmed Froilan Dytianquin, Managing Director of Chery Auto Philippines (and UAAGI for that matter).

Leading the charge, pardon the pun, is the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV (lead photo). First shown at the Electric Vehicle Summit and then at the Manila International Auto Show, this compact SUV will finally hit retail by around the latter part of Q3.

Based on the current Tiggo 7 Pro, the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV dons different styling to help communicate its positioning as a PHEV. The bumpers are different and feature blue highlights. It comes with a panoramic sunroof, full LED front lighting, load-bearing roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Aesthetics aside, the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV will be one of the most powerful compact SUVs with 326 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque thanks to its electrified 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Like the system found in the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV, it will have a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) system. Because of its 19.27-kWh lithium-ion battery, it will offer an 80-kilometer all-electric range. It can also be charged using a Type 2 AC charger.

The Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV will also have features including twin 12.3-inch HD digital displays, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging, auto dimming rearview mirror, dual zone climate control, and a multi-color ambient lighting system.

In terms of safety, it will have a 360-degree camera, 6 SRS airbags, and a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS.

Joining the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV is Chery Auto Philippines’ first all-electric offering—the eQ7. This one is slated to arrive towards the latter part of Q4. The eQ7’s single electric motor is enough for 211 horsepower and 285 Nm—good for a 0 to 100 km/h of around 8 seconds. A 67.12-kWh battery offers 512 kilometers of range.

The eQ7’s exterior is designed with aero efficiency in mind and for that, it has an almost blanked out grille with just small active grille shutters for enhanced battery cooling. The 19-inch wheels even comes with aero covers ala Tesla.

Inside, it has dual 12.3-inch displays with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual zone climate control, wireless device charging, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety and technology features include a 360-degree camera, a built-in Driving Video Recorder or DVR, and ADAS.

The third SUV is yet to be unnamed, but it’s confirmed to make a market debut at the upcoming Philippine International Motor Show in October. No details were given, but it’s very likely to be the Chery Tiggo 9 which was just launched this year.

Like the Tiggo 8, the larger Tiggo 9 rides on the T1X platform and comes with features such as a dual-curved 12.3-inch displays powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, a 14-speaker Sony sound system. Although it comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter with an 8-speed automatic, it’s very likely that the Philippines will simply get the same 1.5-liter PHEV system already in use in the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8.

It’s also worth saying that the Tiggo 9 is a twin of the Jaecoo J8—a vehicle that’s confirmed to join the line-up of the country’s most-promising Omoda & Jaecoo brand. If the Tiggo 9 is indeed the third vehicle to be launched by Chery Auto Philippines under UAAGI’s distributorship this second half of 2024, they’ll be in an enviable position of grabbing sales from what’s supposedly a national sales office supported by the mother company.
