Subaru WRX Takes Class Win At 2024 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race

In a class of just two vehicles, the Subaru WRX took home the SP4T class win at the 52nd Nürburgring 24-Hour Race. It marks the first time Subaru has won the SP4T class.

The SP4T is a class dedicated to vehicles equipped with a displacement ranging from 2.0- to 2.6 liters.

The #88 Subaru WRX finished 51st overall with 44 laps of the 20.83-kilometer circuit completed (fastest lap of 9 minutes 12.637 seconds). Its only class rival, a privateer team that entered with a Porsche 718 Cayman (Type 982) finished in 91st place with 38 laps completed.

WRX NBR Challenge 2024 car used an engine based off the production model’s FA24 engine. Thanks to an enlarged turbocharger and dedicated intercooler, the outputs have been uprated to 380 horsepower. The cylinder blocks and heads though were kept stock since they were already designed with high outputs and revs in mind. It even uses a direct injection fuel delivery system, but now managed by its own dedicated ECU. Precautions were made, however, to prevent the chain-type cam driven from being starved of oil by using a baffle plate.

For Subaru, the victory on circuits like Nürburgring, which is so-called one of the world's most challenging tracks, demonstrated the reliability, durability, and high performance of Subaru vehicles, including its horizontally-opposed engine and symmetrical AWD.
