Toyota Motor PH Recalling Select Hilux GR-S Models For Potential Cracking


Toyota Motor Philippines is announcing a recall on select Hilux GR-S pickup trucks to replace the standard sports bar.

Through its investigation, Toyota has found that the brackets used to install the sports bar may crack under severe usage conditions. After a while, this may cause the sports bar to potentially detach from the vehicle causing a hazard to other vehicles and pose a safety risk to pedestrian traffic.

To fix the issue, Toyota will temporarily remove the sports bar in affected units to prevent potential problems from occurring. Once the new and improved sports bar becomes available, it will be installed to all affected Hilux GR-S units at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Toyota says that 3,244 Hilux GR-S models are affected by the issue and these are produced between July 27, 2023 to April 24, 2024. Toyota Motor Philippines will notify owners through an Official Notification Letter.

  2. Not surprised by this as Toyota vehicles made in Thailand and Indonesia are known to be low quality and rushed now.

  3. Sports bar defect nag recall na, very good pro active action. Others just stay silent, some wont issue a recall unless rear axle separated.

  4. At least Toyota made the recall publicly known. Chinese brands only inform public of new dealerships, new distributors and promo discounts not relevant to after sales.That is why their after sales service is the constant source of criticism.

I think Toyota should have sold its businesses in Daihatsu, Yamaha, Hino, Suzuki, Subaru, Mazda and Isuzu to Nissan so that Nissan, known in the past as Datsun, could rather put the rest of these brands into bankruptcy, hence Daihatsu, Suzuki and Isuzu are no longer in the US and Canadian markets currently, in exchange for something like Nissan would give itself a renaissance (which may help them break free from Renault's 25th-year old control), turning Mazda into a replacement for Infiniti - which is not selling in the same numbers as Toyota's Lexus and Honda's Acura - and as well reviving the Mitsubishi brand.

    Also, I even think such a move like that may not change Toyota's position in the automotive world given that Toyota sells more cars in each markets even after the Ukraine crisis and vice versa - especially given that Nissan isn't even growing faster since the 2018 Ghosn affair and literally I don't even see much Toyota trucks being used by Ukrainian soldiers in the frontlines as the reason why the Hilux is more on African and West/other Asian markets... (Half of Ukraine's military men uses Russian-developed cars and trucks from Ford, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Nissan as I remember before.)

  6. It is a gallant move from Toyota in facing issues as they are more transparent and shows they are really protecting the brand and customers. Other brands alam naman may issues pero tameme lang until social media erupts dun na ang labanan...two thumbs down with these brands.

That's why the outcome of Nissan's merger with Renault was not only meant to revive the Dacia brand - hence Dacia's earlier cars were rebadged Renaults exclusive to Romania, but also most of Nissan's cars (except RWD Nissans and the Cefiro) have shifted to Renault hardware starting with the second-generation X-Trail (marketed in the US and Canada as the Nissan Rogue) and this is was why you check the fact that half of Nissan's cars even before and after the 1999 Renault merger have experienced good dependability sense (according to JD Power) compared to Toyotas - despite the fact post-1999 Nissans faced reliability problems regarding the CVT transmissions being shoehorned in FWD Nissans. (Which are were also shared with Renault given the alliance that the now-ousted Ghosn built 25 years ago.)

      As to the Toyota controversy, then this is why Nissan acquired Mitsubishi because Nissan have found itself to be a better carmaker compared to others - much because even before and after 1999 meant that Nissan used to do better because half of the engineers who worked at Nissan were in the aircraft industry and also most of the cars and tech Nissan developed weren't even from scratch. (Hence the engines you see in 1980s-1990s FWD NIssans like the Sentra were derived from older Peugeot cars while the V6 mill that was stuffed in the Cefiro and Z sports cars was based on Alfa Romeo.)

  7. Kelan kaya matatapos yang recalls ng toyota. Even the new LC300 has transmission defects recall. From low end to high end toyota models, all suffers from recall..

    1. Recall will always happened as long as you lived. Nothing wrong with recall - its a pro active action by a responsible car company for customers satisfaction and to possibly avoid future accidents. You should worry pag ang car company di nag i issue recall, ibig sabihin pag nabili mo na ang car bahala ka na sa buhay mo. in the USA they even issue recall for a very minor defect.
