After being launched for the European market last year, Ford has finally brought its latest Ranger iteration—the Ranger Tremor—to Asia-Pacific. Built from Thailand and sold initially in Australia, it’s the clearest sign yet of the impending arrival of the off-road-centric 4x4 to the Philippines.
Taking over from the FX4 Max, the Ranger Tremor gets Bilstein position-sensitive dampers. If they sound familiar, they should be as they’re the same kind of shock absorbers fitted in the Bronco Outer Banks Sasquatch minus the End Stop Control Valves. Together with new springs, it raises the overall ground clearance by 26 mm to 260 mm. This makes it the second-tallest riding Ranger next to the Ranger Raptor’s 272 mm.
Unlike its European counterpart, the Asia-Pacific Ranger Tremor features much more stuff. Ford has gifted the Ranger Tremor off-road tech from the Bronco and Ranger Raptor. From the Bronco, it gets Trail Turn Assist which reduces the overall turning radius by applying brakes to the inside rear wheel. On the other hand, Trail Control and Rock Crawl are lifted from the Ranger Raptor. Trail Control acts like an off-road cruise control to let the driver focus on steering during off-road and low-speed use. Meanwhile, Rock Control is a specialized drive mode that provides optimal slow-speed traction and momentum on loose and rocky surfaces.
Along with the new suspension package and off-road goodies, Ford has increased the track width by 30 mm enabling it to fit 17-inch Asphalt Black alloy wheels with 265/70R17 General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tires. The electric power steering system has also been beefed up for heavy duty and gets added shielding too.
Based on the Ranger Sport variant, the Ranger Tremor has the same honeycomb grille but with added auxiliary grille LED lamps. It also gets a front steel bash plate, cast aluminum side steps, and a “long-legged” sports bar. Black Ford oval badges and Tremor badging complete the exterior changes. Inside, numerous Tremor badging is found on the seats and all-weather floor mats. It also gets a bank of auxiliary switches for the fitment of aftermarket accessories such as winches and lights.
Powering the Ranger Tremor is 2.0-liter bi-turbo engine with 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 10-speed automatic with a full-time four-wheel drive system.
Only a total of 1,150 Ranger Tremors will be offered in Australia where it goes on sale sometime in September positioned above the Wildtrak but below the Ranger Raptor.
Locally, Ford Philippines has had the Ranger Tremor name trademark. An arrival at the Philippine International Motor Show in October is a strong possibility.
