The next-generation MG HS compact SUV is slated for a global reveal this July 11 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom. The RAV4-sized SUV will feature a ground up redesign and a variety of new powertrains including a confirmed plug-in hybrid system.
The all-new HS will likely be a restyled version of the Chinese market Roewe RX5. The front-end marks the biggest change thanks to MG’s design language making its debut on the compact SUV. Based on the teasers, the HS looks sharp with its sinewy LED headlights, large grille, and full-width LED taillights.
For the Chinese market, the all-new HS packs a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque—26 horsepower and 50 Nm up from the outgoing model. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch. A turbocharged 2.0-liter with 261 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque is available in export markets, and this one’s mated to a 9-speed automatic.
Confirmed for Europe, the MG HS plug-in hybrid or PHEV will combine the turbocharged 1.5-liter with an electric motor and battery. The PHEV will have a lithium-ion battery that’s around twice the size of the current 12.8-kWh to give up to 97 kilometers of electric driving range.
The MG HS is currently MG’s second-best-selling model in Europe after the ZS (itself due for a full model change later this year). It’s also Europe’s 12th best-selling compact SUV.

ReplyDeleteWhy cant japs cars pick up on this? They keep using same HP engines for every new models they release. Some even gets less HP for their new models. Japs cars cant even offer dual clutches to their mass market.
Business sense, Japz just making a car that most car buyers actually need and want to buy. Dual clutch sucks, not good for mainstream cars.

DeleteExcept for geely, most china cars here powerful only in brochure. Jerky DCT, Turbo lag almost untolerable, lacking in power when you drove it in real world condition
