Is This Mazda's New Logo?

Are we looking at Mazda’s new logo? The Hiroshima-based carmaker has been granted a trademark for this logo.

Though the updated design looks close to the current winged M logo which has been used since 1997 and updated slightly through the years, the new logo is a far greater departure. The previous oval shape is now more circular in form, while the “wings” are more uniform in thickness. Moreover, to make it more “digital” friendly, the bezel-like finish has been swapped out in favor of a flat two-dimensional design.

The trademark was filed along with others including the words, MAZDA (in the Mazda font) and a Mazda Driving Academy. There’s even one which shows a new logo for the “Mazda Roadster MX-5.” This could point to Mazda finally adopting a singular name for its two-door sportscar, dropping the “Roadster” name in Japan. It could also be used for the upcoming special 35th anniversary model.

While it’s thought this new design could be part of a global rebrand, it remains to be seen whether the new logo will be used as badging on vehicles or reserved only for corporate purposes.

  1. This logo is perfect! I can barely notice the difference, which ironically encapuslates mazda's car design philosophy where they recycle the **** out of their previous designs then implements them throughout their line up.

    1. Mazda models had been winning design awards (if not short-listed) left and right. So your taste is not as good as the panel of experts.

  4. What's the difference? For me, it just feels rounder and they removed the chrome and replaced it with black.
