Suzuki Set To Axe The Jimny In Early 2025

Classic car speculators are about to have a field day with the Jimny as Suzuki announces it’ll be discontinued in one major market by early 2025—at the latest.

As Suzuki aims to introduce more electrified vehicles starting late 2025, including its first-ever EV, vehicles like the Jimny will no longer have a place in its line-up. The popular small off-roader will enter the great parking lot in the sky, at least for the European market. It’ll be joined there by the Swift Sport, Ignis, and Swace (a re-badged Toyota Corolla) from early 2025, or earlier if dealer stocks have been depleted.

Afterwards, Suzuki’s European line-up will be composed purely of electrified SUVs—Vitara, S-Cross, and Across PHEV and the Swift Hybrid. It will be joined later by its first-ever full-electric vehicle by late 2025, followed by even more EVs through to 2030.

To recall, Suzuki already axed the passenger version of the Jimny in 2020 and replaced it with the 2-seater Jimny LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle) to circumvent the tightening EU emissions regulations. That, apparently just bided an additional four years given their decision to axe the current model altogether.

No word on what sort of impact this decision will have on the Jimny’s other markets where it continues to be very popular spawning even a 5-door version for markets such as the Philippines.

  1. Jimny will be axed only in the European market
Jimny will continue to be produced in India and Japan as they sell it in Middle Eastern,Australian,Indian,Latin American and SEA markets.

    1. That's the same thing why the Jimny is absent in the North American market since Suzuki left NA between 2012 (US) and 2013 (Canada), also Suzuki is close to being bankrupt, especially it would've been better off for Suzuki to be under Nissan than Toyota - well if Suzuki (and fellow Toyota partner Mazda and Subaru) were under Nissan's umbrella (at the same time they haven't cut ties with Renault) then Suzuki and Subaru may go bankrupt and get replaced by Mitsubishi with Mazda replacing Infiniti... (As having realized that Infiniti would sell like Mercedes, BMW and Audi than Lexus and Acura.)

    1. Sounds honestly absurd for a carmaker that's sincerely known for inexpensive cars like Suzuki, especially I think it sounds right not since Suzuki have already withdrawn from the US and Canada 12-11 years ago - that's a forgotten fact, but also the Jimny in the US and Canadian market would be considered as a niche or souvenir type of car just as if you remember that the Samurai (renamed from Jimny due to fear or lawsuits from Suzuki's then-owner General Motors) was criticized in the US for failing in safety tests, and by any means that the Jimny in today's period is a totally antiquarian and obsolete car as the Suzuki brand itself - so it would have been better for Suzuki to be sold to Nissan until Suzuki would have instead go out of business like Saab (another former GM unit) were...
