Continuing its centennial celebrations at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, MG has taken the covers off the Cyber GTS Concept—a coupe-fied version of its Cyberster EV sportscar that looks close to production ready.
Jozef Kaban, Vice President of MG’s Global Design Center says the MG Cyber GTS Concept pays homage to the MGC GTS Sebring, which secured the highest ever factory MG result at the 12-hour race in 1968 in the prototype class.
As part of MG’s 100th anniversary, the MG Cyber aims to capture the spirit of the MGC GTS Sebring utilizing the brand’s advanced, high-performance EV powertrain and platform.
MG retained the Cyberster’s front-end, but towards the side, the Cyber GTS Concept clearly has a more fastback silhouette with a roofline that stretches all the way to the rear decklid where it’s finished off with a duckbill spoiler. The Cyber GTS Concept also incorporates a more aggressive diffuser too. And though MG has yet to show the interior, the MG Cyber features a 2+2 layout making it slightly more practical than the strictly two-seater Cyberster EV.
The Cyber GTS Concept did do the famous hill climb, but MG didn’t provide any specifics as to its potential powertrain. It’s safe to assume, however, that it will mirror the Cyberster in that regard. Since MG said that the Cyber GTS Concept is rear-wheel drive, it’s same to assume that it uses the single-motor 335-horsepower permanent synchronous motor of its cloth-top sibling.
Again, MG has yet to confirm if the Cyber GTS Concept does make it into production but given the warm reception towards the Cyberster it’s a close possibility at this point.
