In what could be our clearest sign of an impending shakeup in Toyota Motor Philippines’ sub-compact sedan game, the country’s number one automaker has continued to cut the number of Vios variants starting this July 1.
Opening the second half of 2024, Toyota Motor Philippines has discontinued the sole Vios variant—the Vios 1.5 G—powered by the 1.5-liter 2NR-FE. This follows the axing of the sportier-looking variant, the Vios GR Sport (and Vios E) last December.
This move means that there are only three grades of the Vios left in four variants. Thankfully, there are no change to their suggested retail prices:
- Vios 1.3 J MT – P 732,000
- Vios 1.3 XE CVT – P 774,000
- Vios 1.3 XLE MT – P 862,000
- Vios 1.3 XLE CVT – P 902,000
Spec-wise, all the Vios 1.3-liter variants remain the same. This means they’re catered to basic mobility needs with halogen headlights, rear drum brakes, a urethane steering wheel, and no push-button engine start/stop. The same goes with safety with all variants now being equipped with just dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability assist, and rear backup sensors.
The new top-of-the-line 1.3 XLE variant gets 15-inch alloy wheels (the rest run on 14-inch steelies with full caps), LED front fog lights, and color-keyed exterior elements (side mirrors, door handles). It’s also the only variant to have power adjustable sideview mirrors and a reverse camera.
Is this a sign that the next-gen Vios is already on the horizon? There is no way Toyota would be cutting this many variants for a slight bumper change if we were to get the Vietnam facelift. Yes, Toyota sells the 1.3L variants the most anyway, but they have to have something big in the works for the Vios with this being the leanest line-up since the nameplate's introduction in 2003.
ReplyDeleteIs the 4th-gen DNGA Vios being prepared by TMP after the Tamaraw is up and running in Santa Rosa?
TMP probably saw the comments about the facelifted 3rd gen Yaris ATIV-based Vios in Vietnam, that's why they'll never make it to the Philippines. The most likely scenario is, they might bring the 4th gen Vios but imported instead from Thailand, similar to 1st gen in 2003, with 2nd gen Innova and Hilux Tamaraw being the models assembled in the Sta. Rosa Plant.
DeleteThe XE CVT, as per one of the sales of Toyota, wala daw available na. I think inuubos na lang nila ung supply of the remaining variants?
ReplyDeleteI believed Toyota Motors will release the next gen Vios with a hybrid EV already.
DeleteSo the next Vios Cup will be with XLEs?
ReplyDeleteToyota GRS is simply no matched to Honda City RS. It's like comparing apple and orange
ReplyDeleteOhhh how did you know? Via yt?
DeleteThe fact that its discontinued after how long shows it cannot matched the City RS. RS for all you know sells like a hotcake, you have even to take a queue to have one. Get lost Toyota
DeleteMas better po yung 1.5 engines for all variants at malakas po humatak. Yung 1.3 engines po medyo underpowered.
ReplyDeleteSa Manual Transmission po, 6 speed na. Sa Automatic transmission po, 10 speed.
1.5 G variant is still retained.
New engines and variants.
1.5 E and 1.5 J
Both transmissions are 10 speed automatic and 6 speed manual for all variants.
I think there's no Vios that uses a 6-speed manual transmission, as they all use 5-speed manual transmission. But the CVT has 10 simulated gears for 1.5 GR-S grade, hence the "10 speed" emblem that it had, and 7 simulated gears for the rest of the grades.
DeleteYes, the 1.5L 2NR-FE engine has better power and torque delivery compared to 1.3L 1NR-FE engine, but the latter is fuel efficient, that's why most Vios buyers, whether first time car owners or taxi fleet operators choose the grades with 1.3L engine, same as what Corolla had beginning with the 6th gen "Small Body" to the 8th gen "Lovelife" where 1.3L 2E engine is popular.
This development makes me wish the base Corolla E would be equipped with a reverse camera to attract those who really wanted the Vios 1.5 G.
ReplyDeleteThinking out loud...what if Toyota would spin off the AC100 Vios as its own model line like they did with the Veloz from the Avanza? Maybe call it the Ativ or Activ and have 3 variants all with a 1.5-liter engine then keep the Vios for fleets with a 1.3-liter.
DeleteTMPC won't locally manufacture the New Vios 1.3 Liter yet due to pricing issues
ReplyDeleteIts expected that one will be 90,000 Pesos to 100,000 Pesos more expensive than the older 1.3 Liter Vios that's why TMPC refused to manufacture and sell it
