Aion, GAC's All-Electric Brand, Set To Enter Philippines Market

GAC Group’s all-electric brand, Aion, is poised to enter the Philippines. This, as a reader sent in photos of the Aion Y all-electric SUV being off-loaded from a truck in Makati City just before midnight during the long weekend.

Based on global specifications, the Aion Y is an all-electric compact SUV measuring 4,535 mm x 1,870 mm x 1,650 mm (length x width x height). Its wheelbase stands at 2,750 mm. It offers up to 490 kilometers of range thanks to its 63.2-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The front-driven SUV uses a single electric motor with 140 horsepower (100 kW) and 225 Nm of torque.

Features of the Aion Y EV SUV include LED exterior lighting, electric hidden door handles, a panoramic sunroof, and 17-inch tires. Inside, it has a 10.25-inch LCD gauge cluster, a 14.6-inch touchscreen center display, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and a 360-degree camera.

Aion was established in 2017 as the GAC New Energy Vehicle Automobile. Its name was changed to Aion in 2020. Currently, it’s the third largest battery electric vehicle brand in the world after BYD and Tesla with a production exceeding 480,000 vehicles annually.

Though its logical to think that the Aion brand will be brought in by current GAC Motor distributor, Astara, it’s understood that it will be brought in by a completely different distributor group.
