BYD Cars Philippines is showing off what could very well be their most important offering yet: the first-ever Seagull small EV hatchback. Previewed at the BYD Tech Tour at Ayala TriNoMa Mall in Quezon City (until September 1), the Seagull will officially hit retail sometime in September.
Officially, ACMobility hasn’t revealed the full specs, but they did promise a “blend of affordability and state-of-the-art features.” Pricing, according to agents on site starts at just P 998,000.
Adopting the ocean-inspired aesthetic as the Sealion 6 DM-i, Atto 3, and Dolphin, the Seagull features dynamic color schemes and lines. Its angular lines radiate a strong sense of sportiness, while inside its wheelbase-to-length ratio (66 percent) maximizes space utilization.
Internationally, it comes with BYD’s intelligent cockpit system with a 5-inch driver’s display, rotating 10.1-inch adaptive rotating screen with smart voice control as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
Underpinned by the BYD e-Platform 3.0, the Seagull may come in two flavors. Both versions are powered by the same 74 horsepower electric motor delivering a 0-50 km/h time of 4.9 seconds (0-100 km/h of 13 seconds) making it as fast as a Subaru Crosstrek.
The main difference, however, is in the battery. Using a thinner version of the proprietary BYD Blade Battery, the 30-kWh delivers up to 305 kilometers of range; going up to 405 kilometers for the 38-kWh version. Both can be charged using AC or DC fast charging using the CCS Type 2 standard. Using the DC fast charger delivers a 30 to 80 percent recharge in just 30 minutes.

DeleteBYD needs to drop the price of the Seagull EV even more as the Dongfeng Nanobox and Nanobox EX1 which are based on the Renault Kwid EV and Dacia Spring are way more affordable and more popular
ReplyDeleteBYD priced this Seagull EV at just around $10,152 to S12,300 in other markets depending on the range or just P568,512 to P688,800 at a P56 to a $1 exchange rate. Full battery EV's are entitled to 100% tax exemption but still the mobility distributor is selling this at a starting price of P998,000 and trying to seduce and tempt buyers that it costs below a million when it could be sold at a much, much lower price. Those selling this on the gray market at twice the price are much worse.

Even the Dolphin we have here is only 2nd to the base model in other markets but it is priced more expensive than the top level trim that is two levels higher. And sadly we don’t get those. I wish our pricing here is more competitive! The “fiscal incentives” they speak of are nothing more than empty lip service unfortunately.

I would tell the BYD associates that this is not the price I was expecting, so no go. If you’re wondering why it looks good, it was designed by the same guy who designed Lamborghinis. To the ew, made in china/by Chinese, crowd, the Seagull is BYD’s master stroke showcasing how it can bring engineering, design and manufacturing together to make a compelling global product. What a shame marketing had to ruin everything. Looks like ACM will handle this as badly as they did/do VW. Then we can look forward to BYD taking over.

EV prices are going down and the combination of new technology and dropping prices may tempt you to go EV. Battery replacements costs between 30% to around 57% of the vehicles car value depending on capacity and brand. So when its time to replace your EV battery assuming it did not spontaneously burn, don't be surprised and claim that you were not forewarned.
ReplyDeleteThe BYD local seller is only out for profits and does NOT care about us customer nor the environment, they only want to make as much money as possible. They even discounted 2,000.00 so that it wont look like its 1M which they have almost double the profit.
ReplyDeleteIt's a common marketing trick so the amount doesn't breach a given psychological threshold when quoting the prices. The pricing is a downer though, I was expecting this price for the TOTL variant.
DeleteNever forget that everything that's exported from China are subsidized. Other people don't know this. All exporters get 10% to 20% tax rebates . And each EV gets a $4,000 subsidy in China
