2025 BYD Seagull Is A Full-Featured, 300-km Capable EV With A P 898K Price Tag (w/ Specs)


BYD Cars Philippines isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. After launching the Sealion 6 DM-i last July (read our review), the world’s best-selling New Energy Vehicle (NEV) brand is entering the sub-B-segment passenger car segment with the Seagull.

Given the tight urban confines of Manila, the BYD Seagull is right-sized for the market. It’s being offered with a surprisingly affordable introductory price of just P 898,000. The price already includes both a portable charger and a 7-kW wall box charger. It’s  much lower than its initial estimated price.



Despite its small footprint (3,780 mm x 1,715 mm x 1,580 mm in terms of length, width, and height), the Seagull rides on the BYD e-Platform 3.0. This dedicated NEV platform allows it to have among the most generous wheelbase-to-length ratio among passenger cars; and at 66 percent, it’s even higher than the Dolphin’s 64 percent. Not only does this translate to a surprisingly generous room for five adults, but it maximizes the battery BYD is able to equip. The 2,500 mm wheelbase means having a 30-kWh BYD Blade Battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate) integrated into the floor. This gives it a range of 300 kilometers between charges. With DC fast charging capability, it can top up from 30 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. A full charge using the wall box takes five hours.

The sole variant of the Seagull comes with an extensive set of exterior features including auto on/off LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels with 175/55R16 tires, variable intermittent front wipers, and heated sideview mirrors. It comes in three colors—Apricity White, Delan Black, and the signature color, Sprout Green.



Inside, the Seagull has the same dashboard motif found in other members of BYD’s Ocean family of vehicles. The organic form is complemented by the two-tone color motif. Standard specs include smart keyless entry, a push-button engine start/stop, leather seating, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 10.1-inch rotating infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. A wireless charger, automatic climate control, and a 4-speaker system complete the comfort and convenience features.

Powering the Seagull is a single electric motor that drives the front wheels. Max outputs are 75 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque—putting it squarely in line with other sub-B-segment hatchbacks. Yet, thanks to its instantaneous torque afforded by the electric motor, 0 to 50 km/h is done in just 4.9 seconds. Top speed is at a respectable 130 km/h. Driver comfort is assured with its cruise control, four-wheel disc brakes, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.



It’s the same with safety as the Seagull doesn’t compromise in this front. It comes with a body made up of 61 percent high-strength steel, 4 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, tire pressure sensors, and a solid list of assistance features such as a rear camera and parking sensors. It shames other small cars in the market (or even those a size larger).

As for warranty, the BYD Seagull comes with a 6-year or 150,000-kilometer bumper-to-bumper warranty, an 8-year or 150,000-kilometer electric motor warranty, and an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer battery warranty.

    It's rivals of the Seagull are the much more affordable Dongfeng Nanobox/EX1 Pro (688k up to 740k Pesos) and the much bigger Wuling Bingo 333 983k Pesos)
    BYD Seal is the next EV that BYD Philippines is gonna launch and sell in the Philippine market

    1. The VinFast VF3 is also a compelling choice at 745k, though its range is lower. The 645k, battery subscription model, needs to be shunned by its would be buyers though. It's a scam designed to lure people in with a low sticker price. You'll be signing up for a subscription service, not rent to own. In the end, your car won't have a battery and you'll have a literally useless vehicle.

    1. Like all other BYD models, yes it does. It uses the refrigerant from the AC to cool the battery. That's why, at certain circumstances, the AC performance will go down sightly because it's prioritizing the battery over the cabin. It's also why the amount of refrigerant the AC uses is much higher than a conventional car.

    2. even for the 30kwh seagull? read somewhere that liquid cooling is exclusive to the long range model. interested in this, but my 1-2x a week commute is from calamba to pasig and vice versa, so 2-4 long trips per week. can charge at my workplace so range is not an issue, but am somewhat worried about battery cooling for those trips.

    3. Nice! I asked because I also saw online that only the 400KM gets liquid cooling. Another question, what's the ground clearance? It's stated here that it's 150MM, but on BYD's brochure it states 120MM. Thank you!

    Why not up to 100kph?

    1. Because that's what the car's meant to do. With a 130 kph top speed, it'll probably take a while for the Seagull to reach 100 kph...13 seconds estimates BYD. That makes it as fast as a Subaru Crosstrek.

  6. About 100k more than direct currency conversion. Gives local distributor room to offer a larger battery later without increasing price (maybe) or something to that effect. It’s a win-win for them: capturing the early adopter market as well as offer an incentive when sales plateau when the novelty wears off.

  7. Good price and specs. Good beginner ev and first car if you have garage. If no garage just get an ice car the ev infrastructure in the phil so bad. Mall and hotel chargers always occupied and only a few. Uly for evs is there a pms schedule so not to lose the warranty? Also is there is a pms what do they do? Obviously there no oil, maybe rotate tires and check brake pads

    1. Yes there is. Their recommended PMS sked is once a year but it's for tire rotation, brake pads, etc. They will also check the battery cooling system too.

  8. After ayala just dropped ktm and husq like a hot potato, nakakakaba na baka ganito din mangyari sa byd. Baka in a few years goodbye na. Hopefully may sumalo din sa byd in case that happens. Yikes

    2. Operations of BYD in the Philippines is properly managed and monitored by a country manager they've assigned to the local operations of BYD in the Philippine market
      BYD main office in China can take it over anytime the Philippine operations the way Geely and MG SAIC did with their operations in the Philippines.
      KTM was dropped by Ayala due to very poor sales of KTM motorcycles
      KTM motorcycles are slow and expensive that's why Filipino motorcycle owners don't buy one a lot.
      AC Mobility wants to focus more on EV and hybrid vehicles which are easier to sell and market

  9. Does EV battery heating paired with the inboard wifi signal introduce EMF inside the cabin?
    Its a long discussion wether EVs are actually safe to use with the active electro magnifield field floating around inside the Car when in use..

  10. BYD just opened an EV manufacturing plant in Thailand, right? Will our units be sourced from there in the near future? If so, any chance we'll see lower priced BYD EVs in the near future or will we get the same pricing regardless of origin?

    2. Doubtful. EVs already have zero tariffs until 2028, regardless of their origin. Even if ACM sourced their BYDs from Thailand, the only area where they could possibly see a difference in cost is in logistics. I doubt that would be enough for prices to go down.

  12. I was hoping ACMobility would bring in the 38 kWh BYD Seagull, but I do understand the rationale in not bringing it in. The 405km Seagull will cannibalize the BYD Dolphin, which also has a range of 405km. Virtually no one would step up to the Dolphin if the Seagull were available with equal range. I understand the decision, but I still begrudge it nonetheless.

    1. Well, ACM needs to get rid of the BYD Dolphin inventory they inherited from STAR. Case in point, the BYD Dolphin being sold here is still the old one. Perhaps we’ll see the long-range BYD Seagull in the future when the old stock is exhausted.

  14. I just realized this car is 260 kgs heavier than the Suzuki Swift. That’s about three full-size adults or a typical young family of four. That’s really interesting in terms of handling (most reviewers say it handles like a car one or two sizes bigger) and the robustness of the suspension pieces and mounting structures BYD used in their cars. Kinda puts things in perspective. Of course we know EVs are heavy — that’s not news. But now when I look at this car empty, I’ll picture a fully-laden Swift that can carry four more people. And pull out of a stop quicker. That just blows my mind!

  15. Just test drove the car. It’s like driving a street legal bumper car. The seats are comfy, almost luxury level even. It handles well, you’ll feel the suspension is softly sprung for comfort, but it’s still firmly planted due to its battery. Interior is roomy, comfortable for 4. 5 is doable, but not recommended. Ground clearance is definitely not 120 mm, even if 4 people are inside. It’s a bit off putting that you cant see the hood while driving, add to that, the driver’s seat isn’t height adjustable, but it’s not too bad since the hood is so short you might as well consider it flat nosed. The only con I can really give the car is its infotainment. Not fond of the software UI, too cheap looking for my taste, but it’s fast to respond. TL;DR, I really like the car.
